  • Amazon offering $90 worth of apps and games for free in its Android appstore until Aug. 15th.

Figured I'd post as an FYI, haven't fully looked over the list of apps in this deal.

Looks like there might be a few things worth picking up though if you don't already have them.

Umm, why couldn't this have been a course when I was in school? :D

  • EPIC 2013 Magic: The Gathering (Non-League) Draft

Guess what, it’s that time of year again……

EPIC 2013 Magic: The Gathering (Non-League) Draft - Note, this is not part of the draft league that takes place at various Icrontic events throughout the year.

Because I like notes: Info below subject to change as needed.

    Date(s): Fri. June 28th, from 1:30pm-6pm

Format: Draft, maximum number of players is 16.

    Cost: $10

Set: Dragon's Maze-Gatecrash-Return to Ravnica (drafted in that order).

I will be the judge for this event. If you have any questions during the event, raise your hand, call out "Judge", and leave your hand up until I acknowledge you, because I could be dealing with multiple questions at a given time. For the sake of keeping the tournament running smoothly and in a timely manner (as well as my sanity), all rulings made by me are final.

Players are responsible for bringing any sleeves, tokens, dice, counters, etc. they wish to use during this event. I will provide paper and pens for keeping track of life totals and notes.

    Draft Structure:
Decks are required to be a minimum of 40 cards, with no maximum. Whatever is not used in your main deck becomes your sideboard. As this is a casual tournament, you may change the cards in your deck between games, meaning you don't have to restore your deck to its initial build at the beginning of each match. You are of course, limited to the cards you draft plus any basic lands. After the draft is completed, players will be given approximately 20 minutes to construct their decks. I anticipate beginning play approximately one hour after the start of the draft.

The draft will be composed of 3 packs total: 1 pack each of Dragon's Maze-Gatecrash-Return to Ravnica (drafted in that order), and packs will be passed in a left-right-left manner. This means when drafting pack #1, you will pick a card and then pass the pack to the left, for pack #2, you will pass to the right, and then for pack #3, you will pass to the left again.

    Tournament Structure:
Each round lasts 50 minutes and there will be 3 rounds total. This will be a round-robin tournament, meaning even if you lose, you get to continue playing. Each match during each round will be played on a best 2 out of 3 basis. If a given match goes to time, the active player will finish his/her turn, and then the match will continue for 5 additional turns total (not for each player.) If the current game is not finished at the end of the 5 turns, that game will be declared a draw. The point value for each match (not game) result possible is given below:

    Match Win = 3 points
    Match Draw = 1 point
    Match Loss = 0 points

At the end of three rounds, the person with the highest point total for a given draft will be the winner. In the case of a tie, the first tiebreaker will be the head to head result (if applicable). The second tiebreaker will be their respective opponents’ win/loss records. If still tied, there will be a one game (not a whole match, just one game!) playoff.

Ok, the part everyone really cares about!

First, tickets (if any) awarded for this event will be distributed as per standard EPIC rules, with any additional tickets to be awarded according to event results. Also as usual, I will be sponsoring additional prizes for the participants in this event. However, what these will be has yet to be determined and this thread will be updated with the information once I know what the prizes will be.

I will be giving out at least one secret door prize randomly (like last year), maybe more depending on how many people sign up.

I will close signup for this on Wednesday, June 12th at 6pm. This will give me time to get the product. I'm also going to answer a couple questions ahead of time, and will update this as needed.

    Q. Do I get to keep the cards I draft?
    A. Yes, regardless of how you do, the cards you draft are yours.

    Q. Do I need to bring lands, or will they be provided?
    A. They will be provided. I have plenty.

Please post in this thread if you wish to sign up for the draft. Also, post in this thread with any other questions you may have, and I will arrange to update this post with the answer. Remember, this is a casual event, so have fun!
  • So I ended up with a Steam Wallet Code and...

Honestly, I have more than enough games to last me a long, long time. So, instead of buying more games (a good percentage of I would probably never get around to playing), I've instead decided that in the spirit of the holidays, to give the code away. But to make it interesting, I've decided to ask a few trivia questions, and whoever answers the most questions correct will get the code. If there is a tie for the most correct answers amongst two or more people, the winner will be drawn randomly from all of those who tied.

Now, I do have a few requirements for those who wish to participate:

    1. You must be a member on Icrontic. Duh.
    2. You must have earned a badge on Icrontic other than New Neighbor, Photogenic, or First Comment.
    3. You'll need to have a Steam account.

The contest will end on Sat. Dec. 22nd, at 11pm EST. I will reveal the winner (and answers) on Sun. Dec. 23rd by 11pm EST, if not sooner.

Prize: $50 USD Steam Wallet Code. I don't know if the code works with accounts based outside the US, but if not, I will work something equivalent out with the winner in that situation. :)

Alright, here are the questions. The first 5 will be "Icrontic-centric" and all of the answers can be found somewhere on the site. The other 5 questions are random in subject, and will test your Google-Fu, so to speak. :) Send the answers to me via PM here at Icrontic. You can submit answers as often as you wish, but please resubmit all your answers each time, as I will be using the last set of answers I receive from a person as their "official" answers.

    1. Icrontic runs on WordPress and Vanilla Forums and utilizes a custom set of plugins. What is the name of this custom set of plugins?

    2. Fill in the blank: Icrontic was the home of the world's first ______ benchmarking team.

    3. What is the name of the weekly TF2 (Team Fortress 2) league that Icrontic has?

    4. The Icrontic Man of the Year award was introduced in 2008, and has been awarded every year since. This means there have been 5 people that have won this award. Name all of them via their current forum names.

    5. What is the name of the very rare award Icrontic gives to products that it deems to be the "Best of the Best" and is described in part with the line, "If you haven’t tried or at least heard of, coveted, or talked about this product, we’re not friends anymore."

    6. Which city's fire department was the first in the world to make use of steam fire engines?

    7. What film released in 1982 was the first to make use of fractal-generated landscape?

    8. What PC RPG, released in 1993, was novelized by Raymond E. Feist as part of his Riftwar Legacy series?

    9. The first person to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame was Shigeru Miyamoto in 1998. He is best known as the creator of some of the most successful video game franchises of all time (Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, F-Zero, just to name a few.) Who was the second person to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame, in 1999?

    10. In what version of Windows did the "Control Panel" first make its appearance?

    Good luck everyone!
