You found the friendliest gaming & tech geeks around. Say hello!
Wow.... seeing this again makes me glad I didn't buy a SmartThings hub, what with Samsung buying it and their propensity to ruin things.
I think my plan now is Raspberry Pi + Razberry Z-wave HAT + OpenHAB = Home Automation Boner. Because I Raspberry Pis now. They're pretty much the best thing in recent history if you ask me. Horray for cheap, low powered computers to tinker with.

I'll have to start going through my collection tonight and adding it...
For your use the Orbit Basic is probably everything you'd ever need. And if you decide to upgrade it to the Plus specs down the road you can easily upgrade the platter and cartridge down the road. The AT91B will be just fine I'm sure. It'll sound decent and not tear up your albums.
Do you have a pre-amp already or are you using a receiver that supports phono IN?
Pretty sure my receiver has a phono IN... but I need to verify that before I make any purchases. Either way, nothing is going to be bought until after the holidays. Hoping for some sweet Amazon gift card bucks.
If that is who I think it is (and I'm 99% sure, based on who he was invited by, that it is).... then I'd be willing to bet he's testing a custom built cloud solution for a client using F@H. Or just having fun with hardware at his work.
