Memtest86+ v4.10 released, adds USB installer

Our very own Brian “primesuspect” Ambrozy loves Memtest86+.  By the way he refers folk to use their memory testing application, you’d think he made money off them.  Here are just a few on many quotes from him:

June 12, 2003

Go to www.memtest86.com
download the memtest boot disk maker
run it, and let it test your memory.

Sept. 8, 2004

check your memory. www.memtest.org
If your memory is good, then let me know and we’ll go from there.

Well, the folks from memtest.org have released an update to their free, very popular, Memtest86+. Version 4.10 adds support for several new chipsets, bug fixes, and the big news—a new installer for USB. So, not only do they offer Memtest86+ as an bootable ISO, they give you a nice package to run Memtest86+ from USB, which is great news for those who use it often. Here is the full changelog from Memtest86+ version 4.10:

  • Added support for Core i7 Extreme CPU (32nm)
  • Added support for Core i5/i3 (32 nm)
  • Added support for Pentium Gxxxx (32 mn)
  • Added support for Westmere-based Xeon
  • Added preliminary support for Intel Sandy Bridge
  • Added support for AMD 6-cores CPU
  • Added detection for Intel 3200/3210
  • New installer for USB Key
  • Corrected a crash at startup

Ask just about any staff member here and they will tell you to download Memtest if you have weird things happening to your computer.

  2. QCH
QCH There have been "ways" to get memtest on USB but it was a PAIN. I am downloading the USB installer now to test it. Stay tuned.
  3. Ryder
Ryder I always downloaded the USB version (which they have had a long time).

It was just an EXE file. I made by key bootable, created Autoexec, and ran the EXE.
  4. chrisWhite
chrisWhite Have I mentioned I know the guy who wrote memtest86? He's the dad of one of my friends. Very cool guy.
  5. DrLiam
    DrLiam <3 Memtest86. Couldn't recommend a better must-have program for techies!
  6. ardichoke
    ardichoke Memtest86 = UNF

Ultimate Boot CD = UNF UNF UNF
  7. Tim
Tim Memtest on USB will be much easier to use, it's too much trouble to make a floppy disk anymore.

I'll use Memtest more often as a result.
  8. mirage
mirage I have been using Memtest on a USB bootable flash disk since a long time. I was copying the tiny DOS executable in the bootable flash disk. Copying the exe file is easier than using the usb utility, if I already have the bootable disk. They say exe file is obsolete but I hope they keep supporting it.
