New Releases for the week of Predators and Chronoberries

Aliens vs. Predator

Aliens vs. Predator

The major cross-platform release this week is Aliens vs. Predator—with three single-player campaigns and a three-team deathmatch mode, featuring Humans, and the Aliens and Predators from the movies. Made by the same team as the original Aliens v. Predator PC game, this game features many improvements over that design, including more distinct character abilities, a focus on the importance of light and darkness in combat, and a more visceral terror experience. Check out Icrontic’s preview of this game for more info.

Deadly Premonitions

Deadly Premonition

In the Xbox adventure game Deadly Premonition, players take on the role of Special Agent York, an FBI profiler on the case of the Red Seed Killer. His investigations take him to the dark and forbidding town of Greenvale, where a beautiful young woman is the latest victim. His investigation is hampered by eccentric townsfolk, supernatural creatures, and the deadly murderer. As York, players will have to blast their way through hordes of twisted, demonic creatures in an American gothic horror landscape to find the truth behind Red Seed.

Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce

Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce

For the Xbox 360 and PS3 this week, we’ll get Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce. This third-person battle-brawler is more like an RPG dungeon-crawler than past entries in the Dynasty Warriors franchise. Choose from among dozens of characters with hundreds of possible weapons and abilities, and follow your warlord through one of three campaigns to take control of China during a time of uncertainty and unrest. Hire generals, fight alongside peers, help villagers, and even join your friends in a four-player mission mode. Watch for an Icrontic review of this game to appear within the week.

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

The Icrontic Spotlight Release this week is The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom for the Xbox Arcade. Winterbottom is a pie-theiving buttwitt, who would deprive all the world of pie if he could only have them for himself. However, one pie has forever eluded him—the mysterious chronoberry pie. While chasing this pie, P.B. becomes unstuck in time, and gains the ability to travel back and forth through time to give himself a helping hand. Each level is a puzzle which requires the player to make multiple run-throughs, each time adding another Winterbottom to the continuity, the trick being to plan ahead how each one will interact with the ones that will come next, so that eventually P.B. will get the pie he so dastardly craves.

As always, these games are available in Ye Olde Icrontic Gaming Shoppe.

UPSLynx The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom looks really frigging sweet. I love the art style.

But it can't take my focus from AVP OMG

Does this mean you're buying it and I should as well?

kryyst If Braid is any indicator at how time mechanics can be used in a video game then Winterbottom certainly has accelerated my interest meter. AVP - looks cool but I've got so many games already that let me shoot people in the face.

I preordered AVP after playing the Beta. I didn't get to play much of it last night, but what little I did was fun. I played as Marine in single player to start, and it was sufficiently freaky. I may be afraid of dark corners after this one.

Played a bit as Alien in single too. It was fun. I somehow died after like two pistol shots. Not sure why. Hah.

The voice acting is mediocre at best, but the mechanics feel solid enough.
