The time is near my Minecrafting friends.

Date: February 4th

Time: Noon Eastern, 11AM Central, 9AM Pacific.

Where: minecraft.ardichoke.info
Voice: Vent

What to expect: The goal is explore and settle a spawn point. This is a community event. We would like you to come help create a welcoming server for everyone. Personal builds will be more then welcome but we would like to focus on Community for at least the first day.
Update 02/01/12: The Spawn courtyard will be 49x49. Our first goal on Restart day will be to make a barrier around this and light it up. After that I will start laying out the map with markers (cobblestone probably) and we can work on assigning the first plots!

Map: I will be staying on most of the day to answer any questions and set the lay of the land. Working on laying out ICManor and then ICTown and ICIndustry within. If there is time I may start laying out plots in The Oulands. If you would like to request a plot in ICTown, ICIndustry or The Outlands, see this thread. I will be working on a map based on requests and requirements.

Beforehand I will start up a world with the seed I have in mind just to make sure we don't spawn in lava or something like that (for those of you that remember our original spawn, you'll understand that one).

Ark: In case you are interested, you have the ability to ship some of your items to the new world. These items will not be available the day of the reset. They will be available after spawn is settled. I will pick a place and "move" the chests over. If you want to have some of your items from the current world moved over you simply need to create a chest at current world ICTown station with your items and place a sign next to it indicating it is your "Ark" items. As time gets closer I will give you guys a heads up that I will be going on to take inventory of the chests for moving.
Update 02/01/12: I'll be taking the "Ark" inventory on Friday 2/3, Please have your finalized items in your chests and your chest clearly labeled. Anything placed in the chests after Noon (Pacific) on Friday can not be guaranteed.
Update 02/03/12: Ark images done.

This thread is a work in progress, I will update it as needed.

I ran across an Apocalypse server on Reddit and I have been hooked. Basically it is a server where the only rule is no cheating (no x-ray or other mods that give you an advantage). You choose if you want to try to rebuild peacefully or run around killing and blowing stuff up. There are randomish chests inside of buildings that have supplies and other random crap.

It has been interesting, the server has a subreddit where it seems griefing has been popular recently yet in the part of the world I have made my stand I have only run into friendlies. Even built up a small farm with a guy, had another player come up claiming it was his building, made a peace offering no one got killed. Shortly after that I packed up my stuff and moved on. I have not made my way back over that way but I have the coordinates if I/we feel the need to go back and check it out.

Was wondering if there was any interest in logging on as a group, meeting up and making things happen? Whether that be hunting other players, restoring a building or just roaming the wasteland searching and clearing buildings is up to the group I guess.

What do you think?

I grow tired of the kluge that is our nether. It is time for a proper Nether Hub.

I am going to start, as early as today, clearing out a 35 block diameter around the current nether portal. I am going to start by building a 35x35x7 cobble box (inner dimensions) and then building within it. I will do my best to leave any signs and exits that currently exist but the exits will have to be moved eventually. I will put any materials I end up with in a chest if I have to take out anything significant.

End result will be a circular hub that has 20 exits. Once they are done, users of the Nether will claim an exit it can use it to connect to their Nether base/portal. If we end up needing more exits, we can add another layer on adding 20 more exits.

The design of the Nether Hub will allow for a 5x5 face and 2x5 "patio" at each exit that can be customized/decorated to be easily recognizable. This customization is a bit limited so we can keep the uniform look of the hub. All bricks on the face must be filled with blocks leaving only a 1x2 or 3x3 exit. The patio must remain the same level as the hub floor.

Any help is appreciated. The following materials will be going into the design of the Nether Hub and donations are highly appreciated:

-Nether Brick
-Stone Brick
-Sand Stone
-Redstone Lamps (Need Glowstone)

Also I will be moving town's Nether portal over to the other side of spawn. This is where Grand Central will be.

Something I did notice when I was goofing around in a creative world. If difficulty is on "hard", skeletons (I'm assuming zombies probably will too) randomly spawn wearing armor and/or carrying enchanted weapons.

I spawned about 100 skeletons from eggs and got one wearing full gold armor with an enchanted bow (it didn't drop, so I don't know what the enchantment was), and one with leather armor. Neither went up in flames when the sun came up.

I'm looking forward to the redstone blocks once the server gets updated. I'll be able to consolidate almost an entire chest of redstone down to almost nothing.

Check out Mojang's prank update:
Gameplay

Added new Super Hostile game mode, for a much more challenging Survival experience.
Difficulty setting is now per-world and may never be changed once set.
Added new graphics setting “Ultra Realistic” with new patent-pending experimental 4D-rendering.
Added new chase-style 3D camera perspective.

Animals

Added new realistic food/hunger system to animals.
Overfeeding animals may have a negative effect on gameplay.
Added a new “Horse” animal, with two different breeds to choose from.
Each animal now has a gender and personality, introducing new farming mechanics.
Added a new rare breed of chicken known as a “Diamond Chicken”.
May lay diamonds or lapis instead of laying eggs.
May also blow up from too much pressure. Handle with care.
Added new friendly Pink Wither, which is the complete opposite of a wither.
Shoots out Love, which heals the nearby land and causes things to grow faster.
Known bug: Having both a Pink Wither and a Wither in your world at the same time may cause up to a 200% increase in framerate. Will be fixed for launch.
All animals may be fed Golden Apples to unleash their hidden magical properties (see new Magic section).
Chickens are now classified as a Monster and are no longer a friendly Animal.

Monsters

Chickens do not appreciate being looked at and may get upset.
Attacking a lone chicken may summon additional chickens to its defense.
Zombie Pigmen now spawn with battlesigns and no longer use swords.
Fixed a bug causing Skeletons to miss their targets on occasion.
Added new Redstone Bug monster (see Redstone section).

Blocks

Furnaces have a new “heat” mechanic.
Heat needs to be regulated in furnaces or they will blow up.
Torches now burn out after a period of time, but may be relit with flint and steel.
Added new TNT slab, known as an Etho Slab.
Renamed Droppers to floppers, by popular community demand.
Droppers were deemed too powerful and go against our original vision of the game.
Floppers now turn everything that passes through them into raw fish (see Fishing section).
Added six (6) new decoration blocks:
        Mud.
        Hay bales.
        Lapis Lazuli.
        Slime blocks.
Added new compressed storage blocks for commonly mined ores:
        Coal Block.
        Lapis Lazuli Block.
        Redstone Block Block.
Lapis may now be used for new Lapis furniture.
    Added dyed glass.
Walking over many blocks will gradually wear them down, creating many new block variants such as Cracked Stone and Muddy Grass.

Redstone

Removed all BUD behaviour, and added safeguards so that it may never come back.
Made redstone bugs spawn actual Redstone Bugs to assist with debugging.
Added new Quantum Entangled redstone, obtained by mixing 1 redstone, 1 diamond and 3 lapis.
One entangled redstone dust will connect to another pair elsewhere.
No current way of specifying the connection, may in fact connect to another player’s world.
    Added new BUD blocks.

Magic

Added new Magic and Luck levels per player.
Finding a Rainbow after rain passes will be the primary way of obtaining Magic.
Finding a green-tinted horse will be the primary way of obtaining Luck.
Added new spell system, costing magic to perform a spell.
Spells may backfire, depending on Luck.
    Examples of new spells include:
        Turn any item into Fish.
Turn current biome into another biome (bug: currently only turns into ocean).
Ability to remove gravity from other creatures/players in the world.

Fishing

    Overhauled fishing mechanics.
New special types of fish may be found in various different biomes.
Fish may become scared if too much noise is made nearby.
Added 28 new achievements for fishing.
Rare chance for extra items to drop when fishing, such as armor and maps.
    Removed fishing.
Having a fish in your possession will drain your health by 1 each second, to help phase out fishing.

Combat

    Removed crossbows.
To deter cheating players on PvP servers, the PvP system has been completely redesigned.
Players may no longer attack other players directly, but must recruit an army of Monsters and Animals.
Each monster/animal has different strengths, weaknesses and abilities whilst attacking or defending in PvP combat.
New turn-based combat system will help create epic battles that may last hours at a time.

World generation & terrain

Added many new mysterious adventuring locations.
    Added 6 new biomes.
    Reimplemented the Farlands.
Going near the farlands will forcefully enable 3d anaglyph.
Known bug: Teleporting towards the farlands may send you half way in the opposite direction.
Added dozens of new village building templates.
Flattened all terrain out slightly, with the exception of the hills biome to make it seem bigger by contrast.
    Added floating sky islands.

I smell a Notchicus Betrollinacus

Well guys, although I've been whitelisted on the server for a few years, I have never been able to play due to the port number being blocked at work, and not having a powerful enough PC at home (work laptop). So, I have finally started logging into the server and I'm at a bit of a loss what to do.

Is there a guide anywhere? I have been going through the forum and found a couple of threads for staking a claim to land. Also, I don't have a minecart or any other resources, so do I need to gather some iron to make a minecart of my own? Also, where is the best place to begin gathering materials?

There are some pixel art characters in the sea on minecart tracks. Am I allowed to add a character? There seems to be some spare room for it, but I don't know who owns it or if it's out of bounds. I did see a load of wool in a couple of chests near the beginning of the pixel art tour - is this for the community or should I just gather my own? Of course I'd replace any I took if it was for the community.

Sorry about the n00b questions, but I really don't have much experience of Minecraft.

Finally, is there talk of a new server being created in the near future, or am I best beginning my building on the existing server?

I got hit by a creeper whilst walking down the minecart track West of the main IC town. I was only able to replace 2 normal pieces of track, and I don't have a way of fixing the track.

Co-ords:
X -583
Y 63
Z -124

I presume normally people fix it, but can someone lend a hand and help me out please? I suppose everyone else is travelling the tracks in a minecart, but I don't yet have any iron. Sorry guys!

Minecraft and parodies, it goes without saying these two go hand and hand, and in marriage with the juggernaut YouTube they have become a sensation. These parody songs put up extreme numbers upwards of 14,000,000 views or more. many Youtubers and YouTube communities such as Captain Sparklez and The Yogscast have made quite famous parodies of well known songs and become just about as well known.
For example the Yogscast's "Screw The Nether" a "Moves like Jager" parody about the dangers of staying in the Nether for longer than absolutely necessary.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=gqELqRCnW6g

Or Captain Sparklez's famous parody of "Viva La Vida" he calls "Living in a fallen Kingdom" which is a song about a great king whose kingdom falls after being under attack by the dread forces of Herobrine leaving him feeling useless and wondering why he survived.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=I-sH53vXP2A

And just to be keeping people up to date here is one of the most recent releases, a parody of PSY's Gangnam Style that he calls "Minecraft Style" I personally have NO idea what this one is about but it has creepers wearing wigs, endermen driving boats, and a dude getting slapped by an iron golem.

So what are you waiting for guys, check them out. And Happy Thanksgiving should that be the day you read this.

Hey all, I've been playing around with a new plugin for the Minecraft server. It generates real time, dynamic maps including showing where everyone (who is logged in) is located on the map. If you want to scope it out, here's some linkage:

http://minecraft.ardichoke.info/live/

Keep in mind, chunks will only be generated once someone has been active in them (thus making them load into memory). If you get a blank map, it means no one has logged in since the last reboot. Log in and data will start showing up.
