I built a friend of mine a home theater PC about four years ago, it's served him well, and he only plays WOW on it. It is an AM2+ board with an Athlon dual core and a Radeon 4850. He started playing Mists of Pandaria in his living room and performance is abysmal. He gave me a $400 upgrade budget as a guideline. I was thinking I could upgrade to an Athlon II X4 with a BIOS flash, only about $80 there, then buy something like a Radeon 7870 for around $200 and get a nice boost, but ideally I'd love to just swap the board and get him on a new platform. He wants to run the game on high settings 1920X1080. Ultra would be nice, but if it blows the budget out I'm not sure it's necessary.

I understand this game loads both the CPU and GPU pretty significantly. This is the only game he is interested in and likely will be for a significant period of time. Is it necessary to get on a new processor platform or will an Athlon II X4 not bottleneck the graphics?

I'm not talking about your favorite raid or daily quest or 5 man or things like that, I mean what is your favorite location for whatever reason, be it in a city or out in the middle of a zone?

There's a lot of good scenery in a lot of places, but I'd have to say that my favorite area is Westfall.

Sometimes I go there, ride up on a hilltop, and just look around, and listen to the ambient music. If it's night time, I'll ride over to the coastline where I can see the lighthouse and out over the ocean, look up at the stars, etc. It's easy to imagine what Westfall might have been like in better times, with farms, a functional town, and people. When now-ruined remains of buildings were new and in good condition and all that, before it was largely abandoned.

From what I've read, there's going to be some big changes to Azeroth and Kalimdor with Cataclysm comes out, I hope Westfall doesn't get changed too much. My 80 hunter will take his Turbo Roflcopter out over Westfall and see it in a whole new way.

:jokke:

Coordinating 10+ people from across the country (and possibly world) to:
Meet at the same time.
Do their homework.
Be properly prepared.
Know their respective jobs.
and more, can be a bit daunting.

Getting dumped with all that responsibility, expectations, and sometimes babysitting, when you barely have a leash on your own life is !@#$in' horrible. Feeling honor-bound to your friends to do the job doesn't exactly help either. With no other candidate even being close to worthy, can you just completely drop all the work you and many others put into this "organization"?

World of Warcraft has been around for upwards of 6 1/2 years now and has changed considerably since. it's no wonder many people are jaded with it for whatever reason they personally have.

I've played WoW for around 4-5 years now. I've beaten 25 man raids at current level, achieved some level of "glory" in Rated Arena matches, grinded my !@# off raising reputation solely for the reason of " I like this group" with nary a care for achievements (did plenty before those were implemented) or validity of items. I've tanked, healed, and DPSed all lvls of content.

In all that time of gameplay, I've rarely, if ever, hated the game itself. (Well except for grinding but who DOES love grinding?!)

My fellow players have always been the catalyst for "Why do I play this again?" Sure there is the inherent conflicts that come with any large melting pot of people, with anonymity thrown in for good measure. I can deal with that. I've delved into the darker sides of "The Internet" and have come out more-or-less together. No it's my friends and teammates that have given me the most grief, albeit unintentional. Being dumped with the role of Guild Master of a fledgling raiding guild, inherently that didn't seem like a big challenge for me. I didn't think things would be ideal and would run themselves. I planned for the problems and challenges, but apparently even one simple little "ideal" is too much to expect sometimes. That is to say a simple I ask a simple question that should only have a "yes" or "no" reply. Yet not a sound is made. I try to make the processes easy and so you feel like they have a say in the matter (and they do.) Since that approach failed, I to be a bit more "strict" and just make decisions and ask if they agree with the decision. Still no replies.

If I wasn't so honor bound I'd just pass it to someone else and leave to solo stuff till I'm satisfied. Then wait till the next big patch or expansion to rinse and repeat. But for now I'll do what i can to make it better and hopefully get my guild more self-sufficient so that i can pass it on and not worry.

That's my problem with WoW. I'm not gonna expect you to give your own or want to (specially since it appears to have died out here in the past few months.) Mainly I just needed to vent this. On that note I feel slightly better but not really. Did I do it wrong?

Good work last night,

We got Conclave down after some work. I think we leared a lot about the fight. Timing seemed to be everything on this one and rushing the mechanics was hurting us bad. Spreading out the fight through another ultimate phase put us over the top. Grats to Dan on the Permafrost Signet and DE on Lightning Well Belt.

Magmaw gave us more trouble than he is worth, but again we made some changes and got the kill. I am not sure if anyone was specifically called out in raid as I didn't see it. For the sake of the peace, if you have a problem or notice someone doing something incorrectly, wisper them or a raid leader.

In the same breath, if you get a suggestion from someone, don't take it as an assault. If you think you are playing you're role correctly, talk it over like rational people. Take advice. "Fuck you ______. " is not an acceptable response.

We were a little short handed last night. We struggled a bit. I'd say we do another week of our "farmable" stuff before we try pushing farther into BD. So, next week: Halfus & VT to Conclave to Magmaw & ODS. We can go from there.

Nice work on leveling Greg, at 74 the last time I checked.
All:

I was wondering what our raid objectives will be in the coming weeks.

I'd like to get Chimaeron and Conclave down - I think these won't be terribly difficult to execute having seen them now. I'm also anxious to try a new healing trick on the Chimaeron fight.

From all I've read, Cho'gall is far easier than Nefarian... so once we start hitting the harder bosses, I'd suggest we move toward Cho'gall (ie, work on Ascendant Council). This would allow us to get 4pc set bonuses faster, perhaps making other encounters easier.

Any thoughts on this? What will our targets be on Sunday?

Hey, good work on this sunday's raid. More epics from most of our farm content, pinned down raid comp halfus, and almost got Conclave and ODS down.

Seen as ICSP will be this coming weekend, and a large chuck of our core team will be traveling for the event, the 3/20 raid will be canceled. If by chance we get enough people for a guild run on that sunday loot and attendance will not be tracked. You are also free to pug this week.

Good luck, hope to see most everyone at ICSP.
