Lemonlime’s hardcore ATI X850 video card overclocking project is going full speed ahead. Last night, he picked up some soldering equipment to volt mod the card, but prior to putting it under the knife, he had to run some baseline benchmarks. Read on to find out how one man went from being ranked 30th in the world to taking a spot in the Top 10 using just air cooling.

With volt mods and extreme cooling from a Asetek Vapochill phase change unit, Lemonlime should have the fastest X850 in the world soon. If not, the card will die trying. That’s Living the Icrontic Life!

Optimizing Team Fortress 2

When I built my new XP rig last week I immediately installed TF2 and Counter-Strike since those are my favorite MP games.

After playing TF2 for two nights I noticed a rather big problem.

I was getting really bad lag spikes within the game. Turning on the netgraph (net_graph 3 in the console) showed I was getting spikes where the choke would run high (30+) and I was often getting spikes where the graph would show basically nothing for 1-3 seconds.

A bad time for Canadians to buy hardware?
