you've got a lot of crap there...have you run adaware and/or spybot search and destroy lately? if not, please run both (don't forget to update the detection definitions) and repost your log.
  • edited April 2004
Ok... I will do that now... but I don't have adaware or search and destroy...

you can download them, they're free, and should get rid of some of the problems (some of which you can't directly see), and then it'll be easier to sort what's giving you the problems you can see.

OK Shwaip, thanks very much... I will do that and post again.. thank you thank you thank you :)

All 3 files can be downloaded from the Short-Media downloads server, in the security sub-section:

    http://www.short-media.com/download.php?dc=69

Make sure to update AdAware and Spybot S&D from within the programs after installing.

ok.. now I have "about blank" coming up when I start IE.... AND I have about 7 folders that are either softbook, or softbook error, or softbook blah blah blah... and one has about 6 numbered exe program icons in it... HEEEEELLLLP!!
The "about:blank" is probably just because you have not yet set a nw homepage after cleaning out the hijack. Set a new homepage in IE using Tools -> Internet Options. Restart your computer to see if that homepage sticks.

Can you post the names of the softbook exe files? And also a full path to where they are located on your hard drive?

okay.. THIS time, my settings are good, I reset the homepage and about blank worked... but the other users still have omegasearch as theirs... do I just need to reset their homepages now too?

the other thing is that I cannot even find a "temporary internet files" now that I am using XP... where are they hiding that one?

Also, I ran trojanware, spybot s&d, norton and then hijack this and here is the log file... I still get some popups but overall seems to be omega free... and just an aside... wouldn't we all like to have the creator of this in a small room by him or herself for about 10 minutes... I figure that would be enough to break each and every finger... I have a bit of Omega-rage right now... :banghead:

oh yeah, and trojanscan seemed to take forever... so I'm not sure it even ran??

You still have trojans. Are you running any antivirus? Get rid of these:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WebCam III SetFirst] webc3uns setfirst
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WebCam Autolaunch] webc3lch
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [scvhost.exe] scvhost.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Generic Service Process] serv1ces.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [scvhost.exe] scvhost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [System Updater Service] wmiprvsw.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Generic Service Process] serv1ces.exe

They are designed to look like real services, but are misspelled....
