Hi guys,

i've got a MSI KT4AV MS-6712 mobo and a amd athlon xp barton 2500+. The problem here is that when i try to set the FSB to 166 to run at the default speeds, the box cant boot. Does this mobo support this CPU? or do i need a bios flash? or is there just something that i missed out here??

PLS HELP ASAP !

Their site says it supports it. With BIOS version A6712VMS.180. See if you have that.

mmonin, the mobo is KT4AV not KT4V :P

anyway, besides the bios, could anything else cause the mobo to do this?

OK just found out there are NO updates for my BIOS (KT4AV, VIA KT400A chipset). How do i make it run at the 2500+ defaults??? I tried auto for the multiplier and voltage with FSB at 166 and theres no boot.

With voltage at 1.7, multiplier 11(default) and FSB 166 still no boot !

    what gives?!?!?

It must be a bios issue. You shouldnt even have to set it at 166 if it supports it fully.
Do you have Bios Version 5.0 from 2003-5-16 ?

    Can you try a reflash?

Well I *think* im running bios version 5.0 as in the description says "Update Description This is AMI BIOS release. ". How would a reflash help?

If you look at the black screen when the pc posts, look all the way down the screen and there should be a line that says the version. Does it matter HOW a reflash would help? I just want the dang thing to post ok, thats all. I have seen bad flashes before and a reflash have helped.

Shouldn´t be any problem. Try loading fail-safe settings so that the timings get slow and reboot. Again, have you checked the bios version?

    *cancel that*

the pc isnt here right now. try the fail safe settings with the 166 FSB?

it runs at 100 and 133 fine

i will reflash it as soon as possible

Reset your BIOS, load your fail safe defaults, as people have suggested and downclock your memory to 166mhz.

    See if that does it.

If it is a problem with DDR400, then let this be a reminder for people to thoroughly research their PC components before buying. Saves on the headaches later.

Nevertheless, let us know how you get on mate.

Overclocking the CPU to 200FSB would be the only way to improve performance. You can run async 6:5; FSB:RAM but that most of the time lowers performace running async.

overclocking it to 200 fsb would make it equal to the ddr400 speeds? (400/2). okay
