Fuji Digital Cameras

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the Fuji hex ccds? The one's that are really 3MP but they claim can interlace to 6MP (or some variant).

They usually say 6mP file size, 3.1MP effective.

Are the pics actually that much better or are they not much better than a 3?

I like the design of them, but was wondering about this point. Is a hexagonal CCD really much better than a squarish one?

Go with the effective ratings. Hex CCD's are productive to mfr per disc, and might cost a bit less to mfr than square. But interlace only results in each line painting in opposite direction from last, only is effective in very low res storage as far as very visible increase in quality, and does not do much better than a square CCD for pure quality. I would say a Camedia 4000 or better is still better than a 3+MP Fuji. The effective rating is non-interlaced quality.
