Need help fixing annoying Home Search Assistant

I first relized my computer was infected with Home Search Assistant, Search Extender and Shopping Wizard when AOL IM stopped working. Also, the fact that my homepage kept getting hijacked led me to do research and I found it was infected by these nasty programs. I have tried two times to delete this annoying little problem by following the instructions on this site to remove it. However, I have had no luck. I don`t know if I am not identifying the correct files to delete or what. Every time I have fixed the problem, things seemed normal for the first five minutes, then my homepage is hijacked and its back. Also, I have not been able to get IM to work since i figured out what was causing the problem Any way here is my Hijack this log.

By the way, I am using Internet Explorer. Please help me fix this annoying problem by identifying what files I need to delete/fix. Thanks ahead of time for the help, i really appreciate it!

I think it is now fixed! I did what you said above, and wiped out the files you told me too. My IM is now working again as well. Here is my new Hijack this log. Thanks for the help. Is it so nice to have IM working again. Finally, thanks for the help!

    You still have some spyware:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D1B1005-4C66-86D2-0123-8C1F255C711B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\crtg32.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows AdControl] C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdCtl.exe
    O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU)

Fix those entries then find and delete the following folders:
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\
    C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\

Then reboot and post a new log.

Your log looks okay now. Are you still having any problems?
  • edited November 2004
No, IM is working fine, I am getting virtually no pop ups anymore, and my homepage has not been hijacked again! Also, when I google search, I do not get any annoying pop up seconday searches! Thanks for the tremendous help! I still would have been losted and frustrated had it not been for your help!
