There's a guy at work who is selling a 128Mb Geforce TI 4600. He doesn't know how much it's worth and neither do I.

I want to play HL2 on a budget.

How much do you reckon I should offer???

He won't take less than £35 (make that £45) for it, but I saw one on ebay at £26 with 7 hours left on it. What do you think??

//edit - sorry, he won't take less than £45 for it.

I might take it for 35 (pounds). That's what, around $50 American?

I've seen a couple machines run HL2 with that card, and it both looks great and runs fine.

In the forums over here, 2nd hand GF4s are $75-90. Radeon 9700 Pro are ~$125 and 9800 Pro are ~$155.

The £45 spound like a Good deal - Show him £40 in cash and say this is all I got! :) It's hard to pass up cash!

Yep, that's exactly the way to do it. I'd say that 40 pounds would be a fair price for it as long as he hasn't cooked it by OCing the hell out of it, but, seeings as you know him you'd know the cards histopry vs one you get from ebay.

Remember it is SH and you can get a new FX5500 for around £40-50. Offer £35 cash :)

...isn't the 4600 faster (albeit in DX8) than the 5500?

Uh, dude? WTF ARE you on? The 9200SE is a castrated Radeon 9000, which is a castrated Radeon 8500. The regular 8500 can't keep with a Ti4600, let alone a 9200SE.

4200 yes. 4600, no. I've got an 8500/64MB. Overclocked to 320/300, it can just about keep up with the 4600. But at the stock 275/275? PFFFFFFFFFFFT. Not a chance.

I've a 9800 pro in one machine and a Ti4600 in the other. Can't tell them apart playing games. £40 seems a good deal, it's a nice card unless you have to have the very best.
