Internet Explorer 7 Supports Punycode

Microsoft developers have disclosed technical details of the internationalized domain names (IDNs) support in the coming beta version of Internet Explorer. This support is meant to ensure that the browser treat domain names with characters from outside the ASCII range of characters the same way it treats their Punycode equivalents. With the aid of a new tab labeled "International" in the Internet Control Panel a user will be able to disable the IDN support.
With a number of tricks the developers aim to block homograph-spoofing attacks, in which lookalike characters in domain names are used to lead users astray to the wrong internet page (such as, for example, "www.ħeįşe.de"). Thus in the event of the characters of an IDN domain mixing characters from scripts or containing non-ASCII characters from outside the range of scripts accepted by the user the browser will in future show the Punycode equivalent of the IDN domain.
