Mouse is running crazy

edited March 2006 in Spyware & Virus Removal
My mouse seems to have a mind of its own! In documents and online it double clicks very quickly, opening and closing documents and sites. This all began suddenly in the past couple days.

I've run Norton Antivirus, adaware, spybot, spy sweeper and ewido scans and corrrected suggested entries. Would you please review the HJT log I've pasted below and let me know if I should correct any entries?

Thanks!
Chip

    Hi Chip,

I can't see anything out of the ordinary. Have you tried another mouse? Or tried the problem mouse on another computer?
  • chipatkinsonchipatkinson San Antonio Texas
    edited March 2006
Yes, the mouse doesn't have that problem on another computer and a different mouse has the same problem on this computer. When I click the mouse it reacts like I've clicked it multiple times....for example clicking the back button on my browser moves back three to four pages.....clicking the mouse in a word document causes it to react as though I've clicked multiple times and selects text...etc. Quite frustrating!!

Have you tried it in Safe Mode? Does the same thing happen there?

Does it happen on another account?

Changing accounts still has same problem. However, it doesn't react the same in safe mode with Word documents. Couldnt try internet in safe mode.

The internet does not work in Safe Mode (only with the Networking option), so thats normal.

Have you checked the mouse settings in Control Panel?
  • chipatkinsonchipatkinson San Antonio Texas

Yes, it clicks fine in the control panel test.

    A few tests:

    Number 1
Please print out this instructions as you should have all open windows and programs closed when running the scan.

    Step 1.
    ==========

    - Please download F-Secure's trial Blacklight from here
    - Print out the help page for guidance. It will be found here
    - Click the "I Accept" button at the the license agreement
    - Click the "Download" button to start the download
    - Save it to your Desktop

    Step 2.
    ==========

    - Double-click the blbeta.exe file on your Desktop
    - Select the "I Accept the agreement" at the license agreement, then click "Next"
    - Make sure all open programs and windows are closed (including this IE window) before clicking the "Scan" button
    - Click "Scan
    - When the animated graphics, in the bottom right-hand corner, disappears, click "Next"
    - A text log file will appear on your Desktop when the scan is complete. It will start with fsbl-xxxxxx.txt (ie: fsbl-20051017165931.log)
    - Paste the contents of that log back here.

    Number 2
Go here and download then run Silent Runners.vbs. It generates a log, please post the information back in this thread.
If you have a script blocking program, please allow the file to run. It is not malicious.

    Nothing showing in the logs.

I don't think its malware related but most likely Windows related. You could try making a new account and see if there is any change there. I can't think of anything else to suggest :(

You may want to try the Windows Forum?

On a side note, if you do not use Viewpoint Manager, then remove it via Add/Remove programs. Check here for more info.

    Sorry!
