Seting up for best performance

I only have a single WD1200JB, and I wanted to know if there were any tricks to get the best performance out of it. I am running a Abit KR7-Raid and have the drive running on the integrated ide not on the highpoint controller by itself.

One thing you can do is install Powerstrip and change the PCI latency for the IDE controller to 64 or higher, 128, 255 maybe, whatever works for you, change it then run ATTO to test your new score. Other than that and defragmenting, there isnt much to do.

Put the total lenght up to 32 and run it again. Your Atto is meaningless otherwise. Leave everything else the same and then repost.

Those are now real numbers and useful for comparison. You're close to the max throughput for that drive. More tweaking won't really give you any real world noticeable improvement. Just for fun, you might try moving it to the raid ports to see if it increases at all, but it's more work than I think it would be worth, unless you get a matching drive to raid with it. I'd leave the latency at 64 for that controller at this point though. Nice job!

I never noticed how messed up the pictures came out. Flinstone were you talking about the first or second picture. By the way really have a wd1200jb. The pics cut out the one so it looks like a wd200jb.

the first picture is really 32 latency. by the way is there any way to make the permanant change without having powerstrip at bootup?

No, unless you change the entire PCI bus. If you want to change the enture PCI BUS the PCI latency setting will be in the BIOS, but not all machines have the option to.
