Internet Explorer and iTunes store not working????

ok, Im a Firefox user and I personally hate IE.....

But my dad bought a iTunes card to buy music, and when he goes to click on the store from itunes it gives the error "unable to connect to store, please make sure you are correctly connected to the internet" (or something like that)

And he uses Firefox to, and it works perfect no problems, yet Internet explorer will not work, it keeps displaying "page cannot be displayed" almost as if it doesn't see an internet connection

My guess is that whatever is causing IE not to work, is also causing the iTunes store not to work.

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm not having a problem connecting to the Store.

This may or may not help you, but it may be worth a shot - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300870#win24

well I checked my firewall, checked my hosts file, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Internet Explorer ...

    Nothing is working....

I ran a network diagnostics tool from IE7 and it says that it cannot connect http https or ftp through this connection... Yet Firefox is, with no problems

The most frustrating thing about this, is the fact that it makes no sense at all:mad:

I've just had a quick look at the Apple forums ( http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=797 )

I'm seeing a lot of "connecting to store" issues with assorted error messages using both WinXP and Vista, and different fixes that people are saying helped them, from personal firewall settings, opening a port, changes made to hosts file, logging in as Administrator and then switching to a different User Account, etc., etc., - you name it.

Hoping one of these might help you determine the problem (please back up your registry before making changes):

By the way, I'm using iTunes version 6.0.4.2; I find there are always problems when updating to iTunes' "latest" version.

    well somehow I fixed it

I found a program on his computer called "network port changer" or something like that... so I uninstalled that because it seemed very suspicious...

Not only that but I went into the internet options of IE and then LAN settings and for some reason the "Use automatic script configuration script" was checked and underneath it said "address: file://c:/rapidhacker.dll"

Which is also very suspicious.... so I set that back to default then explored to c://rapidhacker.dll, just to see if it was there and it was.... I don't really know what it is, but my guess is that it isn't good

I did some virus / spyware scans and they all came back clean
then I google searched rapidhacker and it came up with a program for downloading rapidshare files or something.... but my dad never installs stuff on the computer... so I have no clue how it got here

But whatever, I restarted and both IE and iTunes work now.... very strange

I'm glad you got it sorted, Trumandrummer.

I would recommend you visit our Security & Networking section just to make sure your machine's clean.

Hope your Dad's enjoying his tunes - & back them up on CD! :)
