Laptop wakes up from hibernation by itself

Hi

I have an Asus G2SG laptop from last year, nice machine.
But whenever I use hibernate in Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit it somehow wakes up in the middle of the night?
It wakes up at apprx. 3 AM every time.
I cannot figure out why it is doing it?

I believe WOL is disabled, and all the other machinery is turned of at night.
Only the router, ADSL modem and sometimes the NAS box is turned on.

And it is only doing it when hibernating, not in sleep mode nor turned off.
My primary rig using win xp, doesn't wake up unless I tell it to, when hibernating.

Windows Updates? That is the default time they are set to update.

Ah yes that must be the cause of these nightly endeavours. ;)
I was thinking though, it could be dangerous to wake up like that, especially if the laptop is in a closed bag or anything similar, it could overheat.
Didn't think that Windows Update would wake up the machine though.
I'll try disabling this feature, and see if it stops, I update it regularly manually anyway.

I don't think that a laptop will wake up if the lid is closed. Don't quote me on that though. I wouldn't turn of windows update. I would actually shut the PC down

Yeah, the laptop can't turn on if the lid is closed. :)

Are you sure you are "hibernating" the machine? I will 3rd the motion that it can't wake up from that if the lid is closed.

If it is in "sleep" mode, some I have seen can turn on with the lid closed.

    ^^ what they said.

I had a buddy who couldn't figure out why his notebook kept waking up while it was in the carrying bad and would ultimately kill the battery. Turns out we was using a bluetooth mouse which would move around in the bag and wake the computer up. Odd indeed.

Well I do use hibernation, that is for sure.
I will make a final test tonight, but I do believe that it is still waking up.
That means that disabling windows update didn't do the trick.
But I will check whether or not the problem is still there before I'll try anymore suggestions.

It still wakes up in the middle of the night. :confused2
I tested it yesterday and the automatic windows update is disabled.
It is really strange and I cannot really firgure it out?
Btw it has been doing this right from the start, it has not started recently after installing new software.
Maybe it is just a "light sleeper"? ;D
