Issues with fresh install on dell PC

I have recently done a fresh install onto my father-in-laws dell Dimension 9200 because he was having login issues. The fresh install has remedied his initial problem however, although I used the Installation Recovery CD that came with the system, the drivers were not included (no Driver Utility CD that can find either). So I have gradually located allthe required drivers but am having trouble with a couple more things that may or may not be related.
Firstly there is an unknown device in device manager that obviously needs drivers but I can't work out what device it is.
Second, when the machine first boots up and he logs in there is the "Critical Stop" sound as the start up items load.
Lastly, although the one CD that came with the system that did contain drivers was for the Printer, the printer will not communicate with the PC (maybe to do with the USB ports needing drivers? dunno).......
Any ideas?
