Picture of a dying harddisk

edited September 2009 in Hardware
I had a Samsung SP2504C 250GB harddisk in one of the computers. Although there was no data loss or error, it was extremely slow lately. I tried defragmenting, cleaning up the garbage, and updating the Intel SATA drivers but they did not help. Finally, I benchmarked it with HDTune. The picture was terribly noisy, the access time plot was scattered all over the place instead of a narrow band formation. I have replaced it with another old ST3320620AS Seagate 320GB disk, the picture is totally different now and the performance is back to normal. You can see the benchmark pictures below. I thought it would be helpful to show the dying harddisk's HDTune picture :)
