Looks like Win98 and WinME will be supported until at least mid 2006. Good news.

Yup, very good news, but Microsoft got hit with so many objections that to NOT do so would have trashed their profit line for at least two calendar years (Longhorn, if they actually DO what they say with it, would have brought this back, but the preemptive support pull announcement brought even that into doubt in many anlysts minds). Note also, there has been a change in mgmt and software dev structure at Microsoft, in the sense of a redivisioning downward through corporate structure tree, and that in part is also a reaction to customer pressure in large volume. More folks that know how to serve customers are higher in mgmt than were there a year and a half ago.

Both Enterprise and consumer groups raised backchannel cain and some public cain, and did so in volume. When Enterprise ctalks about 1\2 price upgrade discounts, you KNOW a publisher trying to improve image will listen or commit economic suicide by not listening. Did a bit of cain raising myself, several ways-- partly as a test and issue resolution forcing.

Er, how can you possibly know what's happening inside Microsoft's management structure?
