It's times like these that I despise the "not until its launched" marketing strategy. I have build plans on hold indefinitely until I know something concrete.
I understand from a strategic standpoint why they can't do it, but I really would love to just be able to pre order an FX processor right now and know what day its going to show up so I can plan around it.
Just wait for GameStop to get into the PC hardware biz.
"PREORDER THE NEW INTEL CORE I359824835251 EXTREME EDITION ONLY AT LAMESTOP!! GET $5 OFF A SELECTION OF MEDIOCRE GAMES NOBODY WANTS!"
"Would you like to trade in your used hard drive for a $10 credit off your next game? Oh," the nose starts getting longer, "of course we securely erase it and take precautions to make sure we don't lose your data." And then you get poked in the eye by a four foot long nose.
I hope he saw this awhile ago. That is not a good 1-1 either since the Interlagos is using more cores. The important thing about BD cores is this, 256bit FPU or 2x128bit FPU.
Part of the reason Intel has taken off but in general the increases will not be so drastic which is why I am thinking when BD launches it will only be trying to keep up with an iteration off from the current Intel top offerings.
A little over 25% increase in cores, roughly 29%. The ppd I question a little since the source, which seems to be trusted since their previous post have been accurate, only posted 1-2 steps which generally is not very telling. A better sampling would be from step 2 or 3 to 8; this is because of the process and threads engaging plus under Linux there is the load balancer turning on.
Later on in the thread the reference ppd is off. I am running 2 6134s in Ubuntu 10.4 that is mostly up to date with "The Kraken" wrapper to fix issues with the default load balance and SMP is giving me over 40k ppd.
That is the salt for that article but the increase to the 256bit FPU is important plus the face it can be divided into 128 channels to double the number further. For anything floating point this will destroy as long as it is threaded or multi-process.

Quick ...somone wake up Leo.
Don't assume I wasn't paying attention! :shakehead
I am watching, believe me. The war chest is almost assembled now and I am watching, ready to reconfigure and upgrade systems. Interlagos? Zambezi? Sandy Bride E? Ivy Bridge? I've made no commitments yet except to significantly boost Folding production within the next few weeks.

Sound about right?
I'd take a poke in the eye for an FX CPU right now....
No need to tell everyone, just PM me!
Between now and when Intel Ivy Bridge comes out and makes AMD feel like Cyrix
Rumor is Oct. 12th? I just hope there are enough to go around!
Brian you tease. This is why we can't have nice things.
ok ok ...I'll keep one eye open.
That is way back from march. The major increase in performance is cited as the increase in FPU.
