One of the favorite words of the IT world this year has been the Cloud. How everything is gonna be all about the Cloud. All things will be in the cloud and the cloud will be all things. While no specific definition has been made about the Cloud (Ambiguous Definitions for $1000, please Alex), for those of us who will in time be furthering this movement we could really use some more information.

Furthering the IT world centers around two things: new hardware and new software. The hardware is of little concern to me, let someone else handle that mess. What I really want to know is this, what will be necessary in terms of software to further this new movement? What skills will current, and future, software engineers need to have to insure a place in this movement?

If you're big on backing up Microsoft, .NET is supposed to be the big language for cloud computing on their platform. If not that, Ruby and Java are alleged to be cross platform contenders.
