It's Melissa's (my wife's) birthday. I have just been given the impossible task of finding a hip modern and sexy place to have dinner Saturday night for 8 people in LA. I can't find anything with openings. Please someone recommend something.

I don't know about "hip" and "modern" but our new favorite place in LA is Casa Sanchez, especially nights they have live mariachi music.

Libra Brazilian Steakhouse in Culver City is quite good, but you have to be a true fan of meat to get the most out of going there.

Could you provide a more narrow definition of venues you are looking at/for?

Elevate Lounge and the accompanying sushi place (can't remember the name) is pretty nice. Open-air rooftop is always a win.

A two-room hotel suite, but move all the beds into one and cover the floor in pillows and air-mattresses, and toss plastic over all that. Then strip everyone down, break out the oil and have a party! Fun game, have everyone bring a toy, and toss them into a box as they come in without showing each-other. Then guess who's they are by feel!
Other room holds good wines and cheeses, maybe a chocolate fountain, and some good import beers. Liquors if you roll that way. Just keep plenty of towels; greasy hands drop glass and you want to keep it classy.
