Windows 8 RTM gives us the middle finger.

Remember when there were rumors that win8 would indeed block things like custom/win7 start bars? The jury's still out on that one (but I think it likely given microsoft's stance on metro, or least they're gonna try their damnedest), but we've confirmed a different one. No booting to the desktop. It's like microsoft is giving us the middle finger. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing INHERENTLY wrong with the metro/touch/supertiles whatever thing...but why can't we have the CHOICE.

    The jury isn't out. Microsoft removed the assets for the classic start menu from their DLLs. You cannot get it back at this time.

    And you can't get the choice because the developers that are working on Metro apps never would have bothered if people hadn't been forced to use it. They never would have made any money.
