Icrontic: a look at the 1st era

I wasn't sure if this would be best under the Pub or here. Seeing that Short-Media is becoming Icrontic, technically it is about the site. ;) Feel free to move if necessary.

As I am sure everyone is aware, Short-Media is merging with Icrontic and taking on the Icrontic identity.

A handful of guys around SM were very important and active around the Icrontic community before it fell to hackers. However, I think it is safe to say that the majority of members found Short-Media after the fall of Icrontic and never had the opportunity to see what it was like.

Well, being the pack rat I am, I started digging through some of my folders and I uncovered one in particular. A diamond in the rough! An Icrontic folder. This folder is filled with tons of random things from Icrontic during the Mortin era. (Even IRC logs haha *cough* IRC *cough*)

I figured I would share a couple of things from it. For some of you, including myself, it will bring back good memories and crack a smile on your face. As for the others, hopefully it will give you a little taste of what Icrontic was like in its "first era".

Now onto the stuff :D

Folding is a very big thing here at Short-Media. But I think it is safe to say that carried over from Icrontic. Folding was huge at Icrontic and we were constantly taunting and poking fun at other rival teams. Often times we have banner contests for our folding team, a chance to whip out PS and have a little fun. Here are a few of the old folder banners I had..

Mortin would often hold banner contests. Members would photochop humorous banners; the good ones were added to the banner rotation and displayed throughout the Icrontic Network. Here were a couple I had saved...

Who could mention Icrontic without the Icy Hot Stuntaz?? In short the Icy Hot Stuntaz were a "really white wanna be rap group" that plasted themselves all over the internet. They were the target of many many photochops throughout the forums. They got so popular Mortin and crew decided to do a spoof of them. So they took a bunch of pictures acting like "white rappers" with fancy cars and what not.

Luckily I have the pictures from that article. If you want to see them, they are here.

The rest of the stuff is just random...

One of the members (I think XZGohan) came up with this "Icrontic ID". A bunch of people filled it out and would display it in their sigs...

car-lovers-caught-in-the-act.jpg

WTF is this you may be wondering? A few of you may even remember! haha. This is the very picture that spawned Mortin's famous avatar! He cropped out the man's "OHhhh s***" look and made it his avatar.

ogo.jpg

This is one of the old Icrontic logos. IC had a handful of logos back in the day, but I believe this is the one that stood the longest (and the best imho)...

Wow. Where do I start on this one? I have no idea when this picture was made but I think we all should use it more often. I'm sure you can figure it out. :p

HERE, we have screenshot of the old Icrontic forums. You can see the dark theme with the blues was more popular back then. If you look closely, you will even recognize some names :) *cough* me, ranger loki, thrax, and even LadyInNeed ;)

HERE is a forum post I had saved (I have no idea why) from a long time ago (look at the date haha). If you read it I guarantee it will give you a chuckle. Probably will recognize a few names ;)

Lastly, I will leave with a video. The video was made by Mortin and staff for fun and then posted to the site. Its 11 megs, just right click HERE and save it.
I remember there was a car wash video as well but I couldn't find that one. If anyone has that one let me know.

:cheers2: Cheers to the old Icrontic, where some of us practically grew up.

:cheers3: Cheers to the new Icrontic, may the good times continue :)

ROFL I remember all of that for which I was around for.

Thats the case tossing video I mentioned in the other thread. I remember that thread as well, the Keith holding his family jewels with other hand in the air.

    Ahh good times!

I still have Keith on ICQ too...in memory. And to think...he would be just a few months younger than I am.

The purple theme was the very first generation of Icrontic, right after it changed over from ApusHardware.

It was purple -> went through about 2 revisons -> went to the blue/cream design -> went through a revision -> lightblue design powered by php nuke -> design you see in the example forum thread above

The old saying around Icrontic was if you didn't like the design just to wait, because it would change in X months anyways. haha

I used to have fun at the Icrontic forums, but when they came back up, and I registered there, it was ok there, but for some reason I got banned from there, for which, I do not remember the reason why.

Anyway, I hope the merger will be as good as the old days were.

I remember what got me here way back when. I found the Apu's Hardware counter-strike server and played on it quite a bit because it had the best ping for my 56k back in the day; after awhile I decided to visit the website. Soon after it changed to Icrontic. When it was hacked i moved to SM. I've never been a huge forum poster though, but I have been around reading for quite awhile.

I hate it when people do that! My company blocks all the 3rd party hosting sites, so I have to remember to check stuff at home as well.

Doing good. I was going through my old email accounts and deleting 100's of unread emails and came across one about Icrontic. Glad to see it's still alive and kicking. :D I still need to check out BitBender and hollar at my old friends over there too.
