My dually system is ALIVE! Muahahahahahahaa! I will now implement my secret plan to take over the world! :D;D

It's alive, booting, and currently installing Windows, but I'm not done tinkering with it yet...

Semi-final system specs:

Antec SX1240 full tower (it's too small; the HDDs with the converters hit the SLK-800s... I'm looking into new cases)

Antec TrueControl 550w TruePower PS w/front control panel

MSI K7D Master-L motherboard

512MB Samsung PC2100 DDR (1GB of OCZ PC2700 to be ordered on Monday)

2 AMD Athlon XP 2500+ CPUs @ 11x133 (1.47GHz). Soon to be changed to 2.25GHz, but I haven't modded the multis yet...

ATi Rage 128 32mb (soon to be a Ti4200/4400/4600, then an upgrade to the R420/NV40)

HighPoint RocketRaid 1540 SATA RAID adapter

SB Audigy2 Platinum

Adaptec ASC-29160 SCSI (to transfer files from old drives)

4 160GB Maxtor DiamondMax 9 8MB/7200RPM ATA-133 hard drives w/HighPoint RocketHead 100 PATA-SATA adapters in 2 320GB RAID 0 arrays

2 10,000RPM IBM Ultrastar LVD-160/SE SCSI hard drives @ 36.7 & 18.2GB (only until I get the files off 'em)

LiteOn 52/24/52 CD-RW

Toshiba 16x DVD

AMD retail 2500+ heatsinks w/low profile fans off other AMD coolers (they flow more air than the fans on the 2500 heatsinks do. They're only staying in it until I get a case that can handle 2 SLK-800s and 4 HDDs with adapters on them)

5 Tt SmartFan2 case fans connected to "Fan Only" leads, which are controlled on the front panel for the PS, along with the PS fans themselves

Sunon 92x25mm case fan, connected to standard molex connector

We must all hail the uber computer!

;):D

Ageek... I'll look into those; I've been considering the Lian-Li PC7X, and the various cube cases... but I'll have to look into rackmount stuff too...

Shivian... hmm... lemme think for a seco.. uh, no. :D

My board has the 1.6 bios and MSI's website only shows the 1.5 for the non-L board!? Which one are you using for the monster? Also, which OS? XP or 2K?

    Thanks,

    S!

Ok, the advantage of a 4U or 2U is that space from mobo to case top is open. You might need or want a 4U and possibly a couple blowholes over the CPU fans, but you will not need to worry about HDs being in the way of heatsinks even if they have adapters.

The U rack series is real deep, extra deep (front to back) compared to a normal tower case. An Enlight server case would also be extra deep, but the rackmount case alternatives might be cheaper once you factored in PSUs.

swordsman... I believe it's version 1.6... the first line is W6501MS V1.6 121302 11:47:22, and the bios is dated 12/13/2002, so...

Ageek; the problem is where to put the case; I don't have room for a rack, so I'd have to mount it either under my desk, put my monitor on it, or put it on it's side, which I'm not real inclined to do, but I'll look into them.

    Geeky1,

Look at this Maxtop case at Newegg:

    http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=11-150-019-07.jpg/11-150-019-09.jpg/11-150-019-10.jpg/11-150-019-11.jpg/11-150-019-12.jpg/11-150-019-08.jpg

I have my K7D Master-L in one with 9 harddrives, 2 optical drives, and a floppy with no clearance issues what-so-ever. The only problem I had was the GF4Ti4400. Those damn things are so long they hit the back of the lower drive cage. But, after switching to a 9500 Pro, all is well. 2-SK-7's on it too. it has 2-120mm fans in it-1 front blowing over the drives, 1 back sucking out- and one 92mm fan sucking out next to the PS behind the upper 4 hdd's. By the way, if you're using one of the Powmax or Leadman 600 watt PS's, the case is setup perfectly for the fan to draw across the optical drives and through the PS. I have an older one without a door over the optical drives and like it much better without the door.

    Thanks for the earlier reply.

Dat's gonna be a problem. I'm going to pick up a Ti4200/4400/4600 to hold me over until the next generation of cards come out...

Also, I have been, ah, underwhelmed, to say the least, by the cooling capabilities of the case I have that's got 2 120mm fans (Antec SLK-3700AMB) I'm not sure that one would have the same problem, but I'm moving ~100cfm of air through the SLK and it doesn't do much... it still runs too hot, and it's only got a 1700 in it... However, I'll look into the Maxtop as well...
