I think this is because FAH is not able to contact the assignment server- commonly because of firewall settings. Check yours.

Also, if you use your system heavily- like gaming- WUs take longer. What OS and client are you running?

Post your FAHlog.txt if you're still stuck.

Add the -verbosity 9 flag, start the console and gives us the first 20 lines of text from fahlog.txt, almost willing to bet you have set the client to use iesettings yes.
are you getting awininet message ??

I must admit, I don't know much about Folding at home, I assumed it was one of those applications you just downloaded and it did it's own thing- I don't really know anything other than it's folding for team 93. How do I change the "-config" flag and what to? I generally learn quickly, so shouldn't really have to be told much more than once unless I didn't understand the instructions :P

    Redo your settings.

    Close your client.

    Type :FAHClientname.exe -config

reenter all you settings making sure ie settings are set to "No".

We can help you through each setting, but we need to know your OS and Client version.

    Using Windows XP SP2, and F@H 5.03.

Ok ... I've not used 5.03 and I'm not sure of the set-up for that version, however, here is what I've done for 5.04 (and pretty much for 5.91 SMP):

    User name:
    Team Number:
Launch automatically at machine startup, installing this as a service: (Yes or No as you want)
    Ask before fetching/sending work: No
    Use Internet Explorer Settings: No
    Use Proxy: No
Allo receipt of work assignments greater than 5MB in size: Yes
    Change Advanced options: Yes
    Core Priority: Idle
    CPU usage requested: 100
Disable highly optimized assembly code: No
Pause if battery power is being used: No
Interval, in minutes, between checkpoints: 15
Memory, in MB, to indicate (xxxx available): xxxx
Request work units without deadlines: No
Scientific cores and/or work units if available: Yes
    Ignore any deadline information: No
Machine ID (1-16): 1 for first instance

    Are you running two instances?

Borrow what applies. However, I would suggest upgrading versions soon- but, for now, let's go there later.

Especially if he is using that wonderful CPU in his Sig. However, I'll still bless him for pitching in, regardless, and see if we can get his completed WU in.

But count on others "encouraging" you to get another rider for that horse, Harudath :D .

    BTW- thanks Spike

So you guys would reccomend the text based F@H client over the Graphic one?
  • SPIKE09SPIKE09 Scatland
    edited December 2007
yes it a much more elegant and hardcore solution if this was a dedicated folding rig Q would like to suggest the SMP client, I would only use high performance clients on dedicated boxes.

Right, I've installed the text based client and I'm trying those settings now. I'll post in a couple minutes with what happens.

ARGH, this thing is REALLY annoying me now. I can't install it to a directory I want to install it to. And it won't minimize to the icon tray.

Wahay, I finally figured it out :P Does anyone know how to make it run in the System tray?
  • SPIKE09SPIKE09 Scatland

trayit Leonardo has posted links before, I just minimize it to the tray and ignore it.

The thing is, I can't minimize it to the tray, it just sits at the bottom, minimized or not >.<

He meant, to use the TrayIt! program so you can send the CMD window to the System tray.

Try it out and post back if you still are in problem.

EDIT #1: I just checked and the server you were trying to connect to: 171.64.122.133 is working OK. So yeah, the issue must of been caused by the IE setting.

EDIT #2: With that machine of yours, you should be running the SMP client. It will give you far more points (2000PPD+) to take full advantage of your C2D.

Okay, I'm running the SMP now, however it now can't connect to a server >.> my internet speed dropped to a ****ty 2mbps though when it tried to connect, so that is probably the reason.

He's running XP and knows to try shutting off the firewall. And it seems to be the same problem regardless of client. This one's a mystery- post your FAHlog.txt with your new client please.

Can I ask how you connect to the internet- router and ISP? And what firewall do you use?
  • HarudathHarudath Great Britain Icrontian
    edited December 2007
    BT Broadband
Firewall is constantly off (don't tell me off :P)
    Router: WAG54G V.2

And now, after multiple reinstalls and tinkering F@H won't run on startup (SMP) and frequently fails to connect to the server when I DO get it running.
