edited June 2011 in Gaming
I thought I'd be nice and put in everyone's gamespy IDs that I know. I'll edit as I find more.

C4nnonfodder13 - (Cannonfodder)
Cyclonite4 - (Cyclonite)
Mikoulos - (Mikoulos)
vppreacher - (Preacher)
snehnesne - (Black Hawk)
angrymoosekf - (Idiot_Slayer)
rexxar95 - (Rexxar)
tomayz - (Wax.)
caffran_TF - (Caffran)
obsidianarbiter - (Obsidian)
SirCandle - (Sir Candle)
w1nfr3y - (Winfrey)
canti58 - (Canti)
MiracleManS - (MiracleManS)

Respond, and I'll edit this post so we can find each other and make the game fun.

Also, FYI, we haven't been able to get the private games to work, only public games. Also, we have forwarded these ports to make the game work:

7777
28900
27900
28910
28902

I just did both TCP and UDP for both.

    Here's a few tweaks I've come across and found that might help people with 'deconsolizing' Borderlands. I'm going to assume you all know where the location of these INI files are (Usually in USER NAME\Documents\My Games\Borderlands\WillowGame\Config in Vista).

    To disable the startup movies:
    Within WillowEngine.ini:

    Find:
    [FullScreenMovie]
    StartupMovies=2K_logo
    StartupMovies=Gearbox_logo
    StartupMovies=NVidia
    StartupMovies=Loading
    SkippableMovies=2K_logo
    SkippableMovies=Gearbox_logo
    SkippableMovies=Attract
    SkippableMovies=NVidia

    and comment out lines like so:

    [FullScreenMovie]
    ;StartupMovies=2K_logo
    ;StartupMovies=Gearbox_logo
    ;StartupMovies=NVidia
    ;StartupMovies=Loading
    ;SkippableMovies=2K_logo
    ;SkippableMovies=Gearbox_logo
    ;SkippableMovies=Attract
    ;SkippableMovies=NVidia

    To adjust FOV (Field of View):
    Within WillowInput.ini:
    Search for "WillowGame.WillowPlayerInput". Below the chunk of bindings, add the following:

    Bindings=(Name="F10",Command="FOV 90",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
    Bindings=(Name="F11",Command="FOV 110",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

    You can change the keys (F10 and F11) to whatever you'd like, as well as the FOV values.

    To disable/adjust weapon view bob:
    Within WillowGame.ini:
    Search for "bWeaponBob" and you should come across the following lines:

    bWeaponBob=TRUE
    Bob=0.005

    They should be pretty self explanatory. I can confirm the Bob numerical adjustment does work.

    To enable VSync:
    Within WillowEngine.ini:
    Search for "UseVsync" and you should come across the following line:

    UseVsync=False

    Change to TRUE.

    To disable voice chat:
    Within WillowEngine.ini:
    Search for "bHasVoiceEnabled" and you should come across the following line:

    bHasVoiceEnabled=True

    Change to FALSE.

    To enable console:
    Within WillowInput.ini:
    Search for "ConsoleKey" and you should come across the following line:

    ConsoleKey=

    Add 'Tilde' after the equal sign to enable the console (should look like ConsoleKey=Tilde)

    To disable mouse smoothing:
    Within WillowInput.ini:
    Search for "bEnableMouseSmoothing" and you should come across the following line:

    bEnableMouseSmoothing=True

    Change to FALSE. Should improve the feel of the mouse when looking around and navigating the UI.

    Enable Drop Weapon Key:
    Within WillowInput.ini:
    Search for "WillowGame.WillowPlayerInput". Within that section, search for "ThrowWeapon". By default, it's bound to "Underscore" - I changed mine to V, so it looks like:

    Bindings=(Name="V",Command="ThrowWeapon",Control=F alse,Shift=False,Alt=False)

    To make zoom a toggle (courtesy of Miker):

    Within WillowInput.ini:

    Put the text below under [WillowGame.WillowPlayerInput]

    Bindings=(Name="ZoomIn",Command="StartAltFire | setbind ThumbMouseButton zoomout",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,LeftT rigger=False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False, bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
    Bindings=(Name="ZoomOut",Command="StopAltFire | setbind ThumbMouseButton zoomin",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,LeftTr igger=False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,b IgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
    Bindings=(Name="ThumbMouseButton",Command="zoomout ",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,LeftTrig ger= False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnore Shift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

    My gamespy id is SirCandle, if not that, then Sir Candle. Pretty sure it's the first one.
    Me and Miko have had few problems connecting to each other which, by the way, is a god damned miracle. But we have had huge issues connecting to others. He has set up Hamachi so we can play use LAN, but I don't know how he did it.

    ...gamespy ID? Don't we just need SteamIDs?
  • ObsidianObsidian Michigan Icrontian
    edited October 2009
    No, Borderlands uses Gamespy for online play. You can't join games through Steam as far as I can tell.

    Ugh... that's a strike against right there. I HATE GameSpy.

    Or has it gotten better in the past couple years? (I doubt it)

    Its pretty painless to join and start a match - with the port forwarding above, I hardly notice GameSpy. The in game voice leaves a (lot) to be desired. Overall, the game is really fun though, especially if you get everyone on a steam voice chat.

    As long as you use a third party voice chat program (I've been using vent) the multiplayer works great.
  • PreacherPreacher Potomac, MD Icrontian
    edited October 2009
    The chat works very well in game. However, the requirement to use Gamespy is totally lame. Overall, though the game seems to be meeting my personal expectations.

    Wax,
    Any idea where that file is for those of use that bought it using Steam?

    You know Windows has a search feature, right Preach? You should be able to just type in "WillowEngine.ini" and find it.

    Obs,
    LOL. Yes, I r nott stoopid, but I is ignoreant.

    I deserved that. It turns out on my installation that file is on the D:drive which was not in my original search parameters. I found it and have since scheduled ritual self-flagellation and remedial computing instruction.

    -windowed
