Sell the 9000 card, then you'd have more of a budget... depending on your gaming needs, get a new Video Card and possibly something else with the added money after the 9000 sells.

I'd probably do the 9600xt, and get a Logitech MX Duo set which is cordless Keyboard and mouse, you may even have enough left over to get a nice new HDD or even extra RAM.

I go for a mix of Quantity and Quality rather tha just getting one BIG NICE "thing"

    So...

either one 9800 XT or Pro

    Or,

9600+Awsome Cordless Key&Mouse+HDD or RAM (or no K&M, but Extra RAM and HDD)

The 9700 Pro is good. I have one and it's really powerful, but the 9600 XT w/HL2 voucher is awesome too...

Get the 9800 Pro, skip the RAM and HDD.

which is better and WHY, the 9700pro or the 9600XT?

The 9700 Pro is better than the 9600XT because the 9700 Pro has eight full pipelines and texture units, whereas the 9600XT only has four of each.

Cutting through the bull****, it means that the 9700 Pro has twice the bandwidth of the 9600XT. So even though the 9600XT has faster core AND memory, it can only use half as much at a time as the 9700.

thanks, i havent kept up with video cards a whole lot lately, and have yet to buy an ATI based card. im still using my ti4600. i have however been tossing around the idea of something new. that pretty much rules out the 9600 series then, leaving the 9800, most likely a 9800pro unless i find a smoking great deal on a 9700pro.

also, is there way i can find out stock GPU temps. say comparing ti4600-9700pro-9800pro? i have the GPU tied in on my watercooling, so it'd be nice to know the coolest GPU to the hottest.

I'm with Thrax, the 9800Pro. My second place recommendation would be the 9700Pro and 512 more RAM. The 9600XT is a very nice card but is just NOT as fast as either one of the other 2. The 9800Pro has new instructions over the 9700Pro, tho irl is not a bunch faster.

Not mentioned but a third place vote goes for an additional Hard Drive so you can back everything up and be protected against a failure.
