@Tushon and I were in talks of doing part of the AT a couple years ago before my poor shit ass knees fell to Probably Arthritis for a summer. We're in talks again. Not for this year, but 2019, and probably in October (Cooler weather, less rain, maybe less busy?)

Details are in the works, but here is the forum thread to follow if you are at all interested. Dates will be set well ahead of time so all ya'll can make sure you get that time off.

(Wanted to go this year, but some @Gargoyle wanted to get married in october or some crap and the end of the month is a crap shoot with everything else I always have going on. Way to go Garg.)

I'm just trying to give your shit ass knees time to get good. I'm out of options for delays after this, though.

(Pfft. I'm awesome at delays. Let me know if your knees need excuses.)

Backpacking for 5-7 days. I guess that could mean there is a "day hiking and breaking camp, driving around" option as well.

I was thinking backpacking-backpacking. What is this "driving around" nonsense? lol. :wtf: I guess if someone wants to drive around and find us at the next spot, go ahead. :p

Agreed, I think we would be picking our stuff based on backpacking, not driving, and if they lined up, cool.

Tentatively “in”. Mostly depends on the chosen route and date, and overall plan.

I’ve also found April to be prime backpacking weather.

I’ve done a lot of backpacking training (via the Scouts) if anyone is interested in setting up a session in advance or doing some 2-3 day test trips before then. If you’ve never gone, 5-7 days is an ambitious first time.

I'm interested, but would easier swing a 2-3 day based upon work vacations.

We will take this into consideration of route planning, but may not be easy to accommodate based on "main group" needs.

    Understandable. No worries!

I've done a 3 day on the App Trail in Pennsylvania. It was a very rocky trail compared to trails in Michigan. As in every step was a rounded rock you had to navigate. Made it much harder hike than normally would be.

Having said that, I always wanted to get back on the trail again. But like @GHoosdum I wouldn't be interested in 5 -7 days. I would just join up for a couple days from the start point and plan to peel off at a location a couple days down the road (if I were to go, that is) Just a suggestion.

If planned well, the 2-3 night people could split off early, and the rest continue on.

The AT in Virginia near me is a normal trail, not rocks.
