I saw this at work or rather my Bomb/Nav class (we have to take short courses to learn or refresh us on how to do things) and we watched this movie that was on TLC in 1995, Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb movie. It was very interesting, detailing all the nuclear tests done from the 40's to 60's by the US, and some of Russia, and China at the very end of the movie.

The biggest bomb by the US was a thermonuclear device, the size of 57 Megatons.

The biggest bomb by Russia was to be 100 Megatons, but tested at half that, click here: http://www.vce.com/tsar.html

Thought we were talking about Shorty's love here...

I was perplexed as to what the lovely girl had to do with thermonuclear devices.

Bah, don't bother watching the preview...nothing cool there

I have seen the nuke fired from a cannon. It's pretty cool.

I've seen it, 57 Megatons? I couldn't help wondering what these morons were going to use them on, What, if anything, were they thinking?
Scary stuff.

It was nothing more than tests. I found it disturbing but very interesting which is why I looked for it and I am downloading it or I will buy the DVD

I found it disturbing and interesting myself, I just wonder what goes through the minds of people who develop these things, " I know, Lets make it even bigger" ???????

The other thing was, they were making the bigger and bigger, and that just made them more impractical. There would be no way to deliver a fricken huge bomb like that.

Not then maybe, but today it would be possible.

Well one thing is for sure... they are all but useless now. Before, when barely anyone had them the guys(like US) had them only and therefore if you screwed with us, you MIGHT get a big one shoved up your ass.

I do not like them being used for WAR since they are SO incredibly powerful, but when I watch them blow one up on these type of shows, it makes me wander what new things we will come out with this century that will make these nulcear bombs look like firecrackers?

It is my understanding they are at the beginning stages of understanding how to do a similar thing with a Quark. But they make the quark implode on itself. What happens after that I have no idea. But with a nuke, you split it ad it's neutrons go flying out and splatter other atom's creating a steadily regressive explosion.

The science behind all this is truely outstanding and mind boggling!
