I started this thread to gauge the interest of everyone who may possibly attend quakecon 2004. I told myself last summer that I was going to make every possible attempt to make it for 2004. I was wondering if anyone else was considering going this year as well. Has anyone gone in the past and can offer their opinions/thoughts on the event? I think it would be a good place for those here on the short-media site to gather and get some gaming in. I know from the gaming thread that there are quite a few desert combat/battlefield 1942 fans here that may share an interest in participating in that portion of the lan party. I checked the quake con site, www.quakecon.org, today but they haven't posted any official dates for the event. Last year it was in august. Now is not too early to consider making plans for attending as rooms can book up really quickly because of the size of the event nowadays. Our friends in the UK can start looking for deals on international flights too  . I lived in Dallas for two years and can vouch that it's quite a happening city in general aside from quakecon. Dallas is also within driving distance for me so I can help chauffer. I'll get a double room and let people crash there too to help some out with expenses. I think this would be a good way to get people drawn to the site and possibly add more team members for the folding project. I know hardocp has quite a presence there and I'm sure they've added to their recruit base as a result. I know I'm going to make every humanly possible attempt to be there. What say you?

I might goto the summer CPL (cyberathlete professional league) for counter-strike and various other games. I have alot of friends who I know are going from various states and would like to meet them. Its also in Dallas. I think its also in Aug. I think quakecon would also be fun to visit, maybe I will hit both? :D

That sounds good too croc. I very well may check it out too. You have more info about this year's event? Hopefully they are close together although they prolly won't be on the same weekend. It may not matter much though since Dallas is a six hours drive for me.

I'll try to get dates and locations. I would have to fly out and get a hotel. It really depends on if my local friend is going, and I would just go with him.

Never have time to make the trips to Texas for the tourneys. I'm always racing, or at school, or work, and I just never have the time to take the days required for the tourney.

That sucks man. If I was really good then I would try to join. But I'm sure it would be just as fun for someone who isn't really good. I'm pretty good at counter-strike,but that's the only game that I play nowadays.

There's more to it than just tourneys and playing, although I'm sure will be kick a__. I see a big potential for the social aspect and a central place for everyone to plan to be at one time if anyone were interested.

It is pretty funny, till you look at the top prizes :X If I had no job or school, I would practice everyday for the counterstrike tournament, or maybe the UT2k3 tourney. The prizes are huge.
