Hello, i have the option to change the latency of my memory.
i have the corsair xms 2 sticks of 512 pc3200 c2 ram with black headspreader.
What is the lowest latency i can set the memory at.
I tried it on 2-2-2-7 and windows did not load but i didnt try it again because i got scared.
right now the latencies are at 2.5-3-3-8
What is the lowest latencies i can set the memory to get the highest performance.
thanks
fsb is on 200mhz

Corsair XMS is supposed to be able to run at 2-2-2-6... however, every manufacturer comes out with a bad stick of RAM from time to time. At any rate, the last number should be set to 11 for best performance in an nForce2 motherboard, regardless of the others. For some reason, it works better that way...

11 for the number you have as 7 and 8 - I think it is TRAS.

why do we set the tras higher, are lower latencies supposed to be faster?

It's got something to do with how the memory controller on the nForce2 works. Yes lower numbers are traditionally better, and it bugs me to raise it too... but somehow it really does increase memory performance.

The newer XMS3200LL based on Winbond CH-5 modules is rated at 2-3-2-6. I know this for a fact as I have V1.1 (BH-5) sticks which will do 2-2-2-6 and V1.2 (CH-5) sticks that are rated for and will only do 2-3-2-6. In general the CH-5 based stuff will not run 2-2-2-6 although some have had success. Seems like lsevald is one of the lucky ones.
As GHoosdum said, set the TRAS to 11. This has been proven to be the fastest when running 2-3-2/2-2-2.

ok with my stock settings
amd athlon xp 3000+ 333mhz
corsair xms pc3200 2-3-3-6 at 333mhz
radeon 9800pro at stock i get 5688 on 3dmark2003
i overclocked to
amd athlon xp 3200+ 400mhz
latency 2-3-3-11 at 401mhz
same vid card at stock
i got 5765
so increase of 77 points.
The Tras setting is another nForce2 specialty.
There's quite a few of them.
