Try to hit a mine on the first bounce. If you can you can parlay it to a pretty decent series of mine bounces.
The second pic is a fluke and very hard to achieve.

Is there really any way to "try" to hit a mine? Or am I just missing something...I'm just hopeful to hit the damn penguin and then pray for a mine.

I can hit it fine...just got 1037.6, but can you really "try" as in "aim" for mines on the first bounce? It seems to me that its just "hit it and pray for lucky bounces"...correct?

When saying "be the bat", you're just referring to being better at hitting the penguin right?

If you can hit the penguin and get it to fly just over the tips of the jags you can pretty much hit a mine on the first bounce.

Unfortunately I don't have the high score anymore either.
