July 6th - Website Defacement Day? (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/07/02/2149226&mode=thread&tid=126&tid=172)

We've been warned!

I'll be backing up all my sites the day before, and then defacing them myself before the hackers get to them. =b

Yeah, Let's have a bash a granny day or puncture somebodys tyres day while we're at it. Why do some people insist on trying to win the stupid prat award. Just what we need, More idiots.

I personally think it's a bunch of BS made up by a bunch of teenagers looking to piss off some people. I would be surprised if even 20 sites were compromised in 6 days, much less 6 hours.

Why on earth is this allowed to happen?

The FBI will be looking for the people that participate in it, it's not like they have a big show with sponsors and all inviting all the web-site defacers to come and deface sites.

As far as "why" someone would want to do this, I guess for bragging rights, I'm sure there is some kind of clan I guess you would say of script kiddies that are all hyped about it, guess its like a sport to them, but it's like water polo: who in the hell would want to do it?

Small guys don't have to worry much. Odd's are, this will come and go and you won't notice a thing.

I will be keeping an eye out. I manage over 7000 domains, several hundred of them very very high profile accounts. These guys make tens of thousands of dollars a month, and I'm the one that gets called when **** hits the fan. I'm not going to worry, but I am prepaired to have a busy day.

The crew at SM have backups of backups I'm sure, they shouldn't be worried about anything. The site won't be down for long if it goes down at anytime.

IF anything did happen, it would be down for as long as it takes to restore the backups. The backups are being tested regularly as well :D

Everytime we break our development server, we use the backups to restore it :D Best way to check it all works ;)

Let them try. I can't see it turning into the big drama the press would like it to make it.
