View Full Version : Doom 3 System Requirements?
PlanetDoom has reported that the german magazine PCGames Hardware has had a quick Q&A with John Carmack in their latest issue. It’s very short, but it contains some quite shocking information. See below.
-A video card with at least 128MB RAM and Pixel Shader
-1.1 support is required for DOOM 3.
-A 2.5GHz CPU should be enough for the stencil shadows and physics calculations.
-The testing phase might last till summer or even later this year.
-DOOM 3 will be released on 4 CDs.

I can't believe I just put down $10 on pre-release this weekend.

 Wow... if that's true, then it will be popular in about 2 years :p I'd hope that's recommended though, and not minimum. I guess I will put the money I make this summer toward a new CPU/mobo :)

I think it's recommended from what I've read. I think the original system requirements were thought to be around GF3 level, but it looks like that may be in fact the bare minimum.

I hope that 2.5 ghz is according to intel specs and not amd. If it is then we're all in trouble cause there is no 2.5 ghz amd cpu yet. Looks like i need to upgrade my upgrade plans. :)

Or we could just go with Ut 2k4. At least we know when that will be out.

Any avid gamer will have a machine that meets all of those specs. And if you aren't an avid gamer, you won't care about all of the eye-candy turned on, so a slower machine will probably suit you fine. How many people in this forum can meet those requirements (given the 2.5ghz is Intel speed)? Would be interesting to know.

I probably won't play DOOM3, but at least I'll know my Athlon just makes the cut. Gotta love those XP-M CPUs! O/C like mad! :)

Never mind the "Phantom" more like Duke Nukem "I'm taking" Forever

It's a hoax.
"After reading this information, we asked id software for confirmation and they have replied saying that the information that appeared in the article is totally false and a fabrication on the magazine's part."

From the "read more" link.thank goodness ...you get coupons with the pre-order and a pewter figurine!
$5 off castle wolf and $10 off any nvidia card
I already have castle wolf and I dont want an nvidia card.
I used to collect michael rickter pewters though
Diablo II was worth the wait ... at least IMO. (and before all the cheats/hacks/dupes/loopholes etc etc)
I will still buy it when it comes out, and HL2. I am just going to stop my excitment for their release.

I'll stick to UT. Nothing bad about diablo though.
I wonder if Doom 3 will use punkbuster like Wolfenstein and Enema Territory? I really don't like multiplaying when they use wallhacks and aimbots.

I hope it is intel MHz as well, wonder if it is PresHot or NW MHz though?
Maybe it demands a 2.5 GHz AMD for software rendering mode. ;D
But when is the game going to get released? I guess it won't be coming out in April as earlier expected.
A little late to begin beta testing isn't it?
EDIT: //Revelation mode on
I just discovered that the whole thing is a hoax, but now I didn't want to delete my post. ;D

I think July 18th is still the last "official" release date: http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10137
