Microsoft is looking to provide desktop users with more information regarding the state of their anti-virus protection. The goal of the new security program, called Microsoft Security Center, will be to monitor the state of computer protection on a PC, and warn users of possible issues.
Microsoft Security Center (MSC) will not scan for viruses itself; rather, it will verify that anti-virus software is installed and running. It will also monitor other security-related areas, such as personal firewall software and automatic security patch-download settings. MSC will be released later this year within XP's service pack update.
