Yeah as EQ said. They label the HDDs by using GB as in 1000 MB but a GB is actually 1024 MB or 2^20 and giga 2^30th. So when windows sees it it sees 160,000 MB but to get GB it divides by 1024 to get 149 GB.

that reminds me of what happened yesterday ...a tech instructor gave me a loaner maxtor and told me to keep it because it's only like 1.5gig ...so I plug it in and it registers in the bios and shows 15gig in windows. I go online to maxtor to check out the model numbers and it shows that it is a 7200rpm 45gig ...15gig per platter!!! Well I couldn't avoid telling him about it and he said ...well just make sure you get it back to me as soon as you're finished! LMAO

Oh yeah ...it reminded me of why I always hated maxtors ...because of that maxblast utility you must run to take full advantage of all 3 platters ...someone please tell me that isn't necessary with newer drives.

Sorry about the highjack bud ...you have a great quiet drive there ...I really like the chirpping sound they make when you boot!!!

I've got a 40Gig Maxtor and I've never run Max Blast on it and windows sees it as a 38Gig drive so it must've been fixed.

It's no biggie, I just never saw this thread under "new posts" yesterday or I'd have answered sooner.
