At the bottom of the file menu in media player it lists all the recent files that have been opened. I used to have it so that it listed none but can't an option to do this. Anybody know how to change it?

In your media player, click on help, then click on about, see what version it is, OK??? Please tell us, we can then get more specific with help tailored to your specific version.
Basically, this looks like you did a registry mod or turned off the local storage of media files before (It like to show songs in albums saved, by default, for quicker playng without needing to read files from CD or the web). Some of the Microsoft PowerToy tools might also let you accomplish this.
The ones for XP are explained here:
www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
BE CAREFUL when playing with them, they are toys put together by the programmers at Microsoft, but are NOT officially supported by Microsoft. I THINK Microsoft does this to try out option sets, see what is popular out in the field for the next version, some of the features first offfered in PowerToys have ended up as defaults in future operating systems. BUT, certain combos, not documented as not yet known, can have unwanted effects for some folks. Most of the changes the PowerToys make can be reversed, but see the readme files with the various toys for how for some settings. With XP, I would say to turn on Ssytem restore if you have it off, while and just BEFORE playing, and to save the system state before playing. Reason, these tools DO mod the registry in XP. Soem software may not like some settings combos.
Side tech note, the google link to these is WRONG, it has a nice space here:
/ pro/
which should be /pro/ (take out space in Google link if you use Google and get Microsoft's somewhat unhelpful 404 page which offers to send you to the XP Home base page). For a couple minutes, the Google URL went up, this is just in case someone clicked through to the 404 page while I was debugging it.... :D
