What a great show - I saw Coheed & Cambria in Detroit.. I took the boys and my little sister and my wife.

Highlight of the evening is when my youngest got to meet the lead singer and had his picture taken with him.

The lead singer, Claudio Sanchez, really impressed me with his humility and his lack of "rockstar-itis".. He was really excited to take a picture with my kid, and did not act at all annoyed or bothered by it. If he had been even slightly crappy towards my kids, they would have been crushed, as they are huge fans. Instead, he was really genuinely happy about the photo op from the annoying dad-with-the-camera, and he made a huge impression on them. He shook my older son's hand and took a great picture with my baby. They were so thrilled, I can't even describe it. They are fans for life now, I'm sure of it :D

I made a thread (http://coheedandcambria.com/board/showthread.php?t=10637) about it on the band's forums. Check out the pic :)

Thanks Prime. Love the ear plugs. We use the same ones for our granddaughter when we take her to the drags. Specially with topfuel or nitro funnycars. Got to look after the littlies. Apprentice petrol head, lol.

Coheed & Cambria, can't say i ever heard of them. I bet the kids will not forget THAT night in a hurry, though.

No, they definitely won't forget - I'm sure it was one of those life-changing experiences for them... They see music in a whole new (I'm thinking, "more powerful") light now....

Coheed & Cambria is like a 21st century version of Rush... They are a guitar-heavy band that has a tremendous sense of musicality and melody... They are definitely quite a few notches above the schlock that I hear mostly on commercial radio nowadays.. The singer has an amazing vocal range, and their album is a sci-fi story told through music.

The bass player and drummer are phenomenal. They are a seriously talented band, and I wouldn't be surprised if they start making it big. I know I was a big fan before the show tonight, and now I'm a REALLY big fan :D

Hey, somebody's got to protect the fort from the ravenous hordes......

Of course, Snuffie's not the one to do it, but at least he puts up a good show.....

well, maybe not...... the poor dear doesn't even lift his head from his nap when we walk in the house..... no guard dog there.... ;D

Might be listening/cruizin to Coheed and Cambria. Not nice leaving one of your best mates at home now, is it.

Thanks for the music links, Prime. Will definitely have a listen. Always on the lookout for something different. Especially after listening to the (c)Rap on commercial radio.

If anyone does like Rap, please do not take my comments to heart. It's just not for me.

Devil in Jersey City and Headshot Kid Disaster are my favorite C&C songs. They're a good band. I missed them in OKC last month.

Prime, you are such a tease! Half? half? half? Sheesh, why not just go ahead and chop her completely out? ;D Showing only half makes it look like you are bragging. :)

I'm just messing with you. Cute kids. Must take after the momma (of course, how would we really know).

That's awesome that you take your kids to see a band they really like, good family time and all. I'm sure they got a real kick out of it, and someone is getting a good fathers day present this year :)

You can be my kid too but I'll make you do a lot of chores ;D

Yeah, the show was really good, but it was cut a little short due to Detroit's 10:00 curfew...

I've never heard of them either; but then, I quit listening to new popular music years ago. Too much teenager, no-talent drivel on the radio.

Coheed & Cambria is like a 21st century version of Rush... They are a guitar-heavy band that has a tremendous sense of musicality and melody... They are definitely quite a few notches above the schlock that I hear mostly on commercial radio nowadays.. Hmm, maybe it's time to start listening again. Man, that sounds like my kind of band.

10:00 curfew? That one hasn't made the national (international, I guess) news or if it has I've missed it.

Good job getting the kids to some live music. I did late last year with my kids (RHCP) and have been looking forward to doing more of same. You're guys are lots younger than mine, props to you for starting early.

Leo: Luckily, Coheed & Cambria haven't found their way to the airwaves yet.... They are still non-commercial and thus have all the creative freedom that they want ... :D

Keto: Detroit has had a 10:00 PM curfew for minors for years now. Since the show was all ages, the show HAS to end at 10:00... I'd estimate that 70% of the crowd was under 18.....

Why a curfew? Is it for the kids protection or everbody else's? Doesn't that infringe you human rights?

primesuspect
4 Apr 2004, 7:47am
Detroit has a curfew for minors in places that serve liquor. Minors must be out of liquor-licensed venues after 10:00 pm... not a big deal really.

4 Apr 2004, 7:53am
Ah, liquor-licensed venues, When you said curfew I thought you meant they had to be home. That sounds like a good idea.

Have I mentioned that I absolutely love this band?

I went to see them again tonight. Just got back. This show was even better than the one in March. Holy crap, what a phenomenal band. They are the best new band I've heard in years and years.

I was one of the oldest people there, at least it felt that way :( Oh well. My kids didn't get to go this time, it was at a bit of a "tougher" venue.

Anyways. Co&Ca rock. Go out and find a song and buy an album if you've never heard them.

"Ah, liquor-licensed venues, When you said curfew I thought you meant they had to be home."

In my city, there is an 11 o'clock curfee for all persons under the age of 18, they must be at home or accompanied by an adult, you also my not enter an establishment that servers alcohol after 9 PM if you are under 21, even if accompanied by someone who is 21 or older.

I just got back from Summerfest. Saw Particle, Indigenous, Animation (a tribute to Rush), Deep Purple, and The Doobie Brothers.

We were going to see Chevelle, but we ended up getting stuck in two mosh pits 15 feet into the crowd, and I landed on some girl and hurt her. We left cuz everyone was drunk (and we got covered in beer) and that was really annoying. I felt bad for landing on her, but she just pushed me away when she got up (but was later at the front desk because she was hurt :-/

Yeah, I'm not sure who's still alive/who was there. I'm pretty bad with histories and faces of band members. It was packed, though, and we couldn't wedge our way up front.

Seriously though, check out Particle. Awesome jam band. The keyboardist got SO into it, very cool.
