Hi,

I have just bought a 3Com OfficeConnect 11g ASDL Gateway so that I can have broadband access from my Dell 8600 802.11g laptop anywhere in my house. The problem is that the wireless link works fine for say 10 minutes, then I seem to lose the link (although the connection stays up - no pages load not even the gateways own config page) for about 5 minutes before everything works fine again. This pattern continues and I have to 'Repair' the connection each time.

Any idea what is causing this intermitant break in data transfer? It is very frustrating. I originally thought that it may have been the ASDL broadband connection but the fast that the gateway home page will not load seems to suggest that the problem is on the air interface.

Please help!

Well you probably have it fixed by now since it has been a few days. Go into the wireless properties of the card and uncheck authentication. This is usually the fix for intermittent disconnects.

Thanks but the authentication tab was already unchecked. Still getting this intermitant 'freeze' in network traffic on the wireless link. Any other ideas on what this could be?

I'm assuming you are using the Truemobile 1300. Have you tried going through inetwiz to make a new connection? Release/Renew? Some new drivers for the card came out awhile ago. I ran mine with an 11G until I got a Linksys WRT54G and it worked fine. I don't use the truemobile utility I use windows. Some people have better luck with the Truemobile Utility. Have you checked the Dell network forums? Have you got anything hooked to the 3com that is wired? Another forum http://www.dslreports.com/forum/equip,1 Because repair works i would try manually repairing. Have you messed with any of the services? I know that is a popular thing to do. Another thing change the channel . Also do you have anything else that runs 2.4 even a CPU on your other computer, microwave, cordless phone?

Intermittent or slow wireless connections are usually related to distance from the access point and number of obstructions the signal has to go through. (EG: the dog, walls, etc.) There could also be interference from other devices such as microwaves, phones and so on.

I have also experience complete NIC lockups when trying to transfer many files at a given time such as transferring 100 MP3 files.

Experiment with different locations to see if the intermittency stops.
