will the retail hs/f do good enough on a 2500+ cuz i just bought that a nf7-s and a 80 gig hd and have no money to buy an slk-800 at the moment so will it work without me oc for right now?

If you don't plan on oc'ing then the retail hsf will have no problem cooling the cpu. If you want to oc then get the slk. Retails are not good to oc with.

Yup. The retail HSF is different for Bartons than it was for TBreds, so make sure you get a Barton one. But it will be fine without any OC.

Define "work". The retail hsf on the bartons is passable. if you have a higher-flow 60mm fan sitting around, and put that on there, it should do a very good job for it's size, but stock, it's just passable. They run the cpu at about the same temp the other amd retail hsfs do- 50-60*C in most computers w/reasonable ventillation. Hotter than I'm comfortable with, but supposedly cool enough.

It's fine on my dad's Barton 2500+.
No OC, but Folding 24/7.

i dont like retail HSF, but thats just me.....im a modding mofo and i love to optimize. I mean sure, the retail is good enough, but just barely. The heat will ruin the cpu quicker etc. The best thing to do is to invest some money into a hsf, like an slk or sumthing...its definatly worth it
