Need good SATA controller

An associate of mine and I are doing an install of 2 74GB WD Raptors on a client's PC soon. Apparently this guy is loaded, because he wants to do a significant upgrade of a Dell Dimension 8100.

Long story short, we need a decent SATA controller for this thing. Suggestions?

Promise appear to be making the most stable and solid SATA adapters :)

Two raptors?? Make sure that rig has some solid cooling, as they run very hot. Also, if you are RAIDing them.. make sure he's getting backups of critical stuff. They don't have the highest level of reliability ever.

Can you recommend a similar size SATA 10K drive that has higher reliability? We're not tied down to WD.

I'm kind of against Maxtor though, since my only 2 HDDs I've ever had failure on were Maxtor.

Currently WD are the only manufacturer with 10k's on the market.

Seagate have announced a range of 10k's but the details are sketchy regarding availability/price and interface (they may not end up being SATA at all).

You are stuck with WD if you need 10k .. sorry :(

Raptors are loud, hot as hell, and prone to problems.

But damn are they fast. :rarr:

Depends on how far away he is from his client.. and how much cooling its going to have. If it doesn't have more than a couple of case fans, forget the raptors. They need constant cooling.
