View Full Version : Blocking Programs from gaining Access?
I don't want certain programs to have any access to the internet or the internal network of my apartment. Is there a way to block them? Or even see what prots they are running on, then block those?
Just wandering what I woudl need to do.

Sygate Personal Firewall. On all Windows computers. Unless your router can block them.

I don't want something running in the background like that, unless it is run by me to find the programs that do it.
My router has a built in firewall. I don't need a firewall, I just want to block certain programs.

Don't take this wrong...but WTF do you think a firewall does yo? You do know that "w/o" means "without", right?
-Edit-
Also forgot to put "that"

Go download a software firewall like ZoneAlarm. It will prompt you every time a new prog. attempts to access the Internet and allow you to specify 'Yes', 'No' , or 'Always ask for permission' . Pretty straight forward and user friendly.
Yeah, it's been taken care of. I didn't want to resort to a firewall, otherwise why the hell did I buy the Router for :(

But a hardware firewall doesn't block outgoing traffic like spyware and stuff like that. ;)

You can use NetLimiter, amazing program, I use it to choke my P2P downloads to keep it off the radar of my admins. You could use it to limit a program to 0 bandwidth...
