MIDI is your enemy, MOD is your friend. Look up FastTracker 2.

MIDI's are the future bud.

Have you even ever listened to any XM, IT, MOD or s3m tracks in comparison to MIDI files? Normally they are barely any larger and they are massively superior as they contain the sound samples themselves allowing artists to do whatever they want, they also allow for effects such as pitch bending, echos, panning and many other features.

MIDI has been around for many years. The formats Enverex mentions are new, more robust, and capable of holding much more data in less space.
