I've just watched a news item about an exibition in Manchester. It's about the two citys that have contributed more to music than any other citys in the world, Manchester and Detroit. They claim it comes from the decline in both citys industrial base and ethic of 'hard work'
Buzzing, mad for it our kid. Sorted!

The thing with Manchester is, it really did rock once upon a time. But over the last 7-8 years, it's really lost a lot of the funk it once had. It's now sadly, IMO, and gang filled truancy cycle of staleness.

That being said, I plan to move back at some point. ;)

Manchester.
I believe there is some gang related violence in some bits of it (like any other city?) though I've never come across any.
I believe you can buy drugs in some bits of it (like any other city) I don't go to those bits.
On the whole I like Manchester, it quite a friendly place, it's where my roots are. I was never into the (boom) music scene here, I was too old for it but went to a few 'underground' clubs to watch live bands in my youthage.
The Detroit connection comes through Motown. The industrial revolution started in Manchester, Detroit apparently made cars. When these industrial monsters wound down the people turned to music and spawned music 'booms' At least that's what the exibition is claiming.
What's 8 mile road?

Ever seen the movie ("8 Mile")?

It's really not all like that.

Manchester. Had to work a week there once, on some big deserted Gas processing site. Yuk. Not for me, couldn't wait to get back home.

Manchester has produced more music than all the other UK cities? Dunno about that, some may argue Liverpool or London, but I really don't know.

They did have Factory records and Erics going for a while I suppose.

We have a few eight miles here, notably all the pikeys living in Erith ;)
