View Full Version : Help Please with my Scan Results

24 May 2004, 10:15pm
I posted a message earlier, but reading some of the posts in that forum, I think perhaps I posted in the wrong forum. I'm a new member, registered today and ran the Hijack This scan. Could someone please review the results I've copied in below and let me know which, if any, files I should delete?
I'm not very computer smart; know just enough to get in trouble :-)
Thanks for you help!!!

Can you get online from that box, and post here, or idd you post from another box???
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'spsublsp.dll' missing
This is why, and fixer is called LSP_Fix, IF the box you are posting from is not the one that made this log. IF computer\box you are posting from is same one that made this log, then We need to look further. So, is the box that made the log able to get online, first???

Short-Media Downloads Page (http://www.short-media.com/download.php?dc=69)
Repairs Winsock 2 settings, caused by buggy or improperly-removed
Internet software, that result in loss of Internet access

I downloaded the LSP_fix program and ran it. I rebooted in safe mode and still could not access the internet. I can access it when I do a normal boot, but not in safe mode.
Any suggestions?
Are there any other files in the scan I copied in the origninal post that I should delete or repair?
I really appreciate your help!!!

Ok which version of Windows is this, XP home or XP Pro??? If Pro, to get online you might have to choose Safe Mode With Networking, if you really want to get online in Safe Mode-- NOT RECOMMENDED. IF you can get online in normal mode normally, and not in Safe Mode Without Networking, then the reason you cannot get online is that you have no networking driver set or linkup set or BOTH running to let the box get online when you start in Safe Mode Without Networking. OTOH, since the things that hijack can't run right or are not many times loaded this way, cleaning is best done in Safe Mode if normal mode cleaning does not work.
If you have XP Home, is is likely that you will not get onto internet from safe mode by default, and because of wanting to do things like clean up boxes with networkign not running so they are not working in some cases, I would not suggest hacking the box so you DID default to networking on in safe mode.
IF IT is just not getting onto internet in SAFE MODE only that is bugging you, that is the major issue right there-- safe mode is used for things done best when NOT on Internet.
So, to get updates, then clean safely, get on Internet in normal mode, update the junk removers as to version and definitions, then get off internet, ie out of programs and browser and emailler, etc, and restart, then run your cleaners. Your text file "transfer" is best way to do this cleanup program log transfer if you have one box, IE save log to text file then cut and paste once rebooted into normal mode.
Sorry, safe mode getting to internet is NOT safer surfing, simply easier to clean stuff up that way, and remove viruses of some kinds also-- because it is not on Internet while you are doing this cleaning itself.

Thanks for your time, help, and patience!
I am running windows XP home edition. The reason I ran the Hijack This scan is my son had the omegasearch on his computer and repaired it with this program. He suggested I run the program to see if I had any files that needed removing or any other problems.
So I ran the scan and posted the results in the forum to see if anyone could tell me if I need to remove or repair any files listed in the scan results.
I don't know enough about computers myself to know if the scan results indicate my computer is ok, or if they indicate I have a problem I need to address.
I'm copying the scan results here again to make it easier for people to review them and reply.
Thanks again for your help and I am sorry if I confused anyone with my previous questions.

Well, I see nothing obviously bad right now-- Is the browser or internet acting weird in any way you can see??? Popups appearing, etc??? Not able to get to more than one site??? I'll let the others have a look that hang out here, also. But absent symptoms and absent obvious things, will leave the few I do not know are good and cannot prove as bad for now....

Um, this is an HP box, Prime, from what else is present in log, so the following might apply.

These are harmless, but are unecessary resource hogs:

Thank you all very much!!!!!!!!!
I deleted the suggested files with the following exception. Based on John D's reply, I did not delete the ps2.exe file. Yes, I do have a HP machine. After deleting the files, I ran the scan again and received the results below. Anything else I should do?
Thanks again!!

Don't delete this without a second opinion!
I haven't seen this on other logs, but the word "restrictions" makes me wonder. Sometimes all that is being "restricted" is your ability to easily remove something.
It may be that you have different levels of permissions for different users, which might explain the restriction. I did a little research and got conflicting recommendations.
Any thoughts from our other fine members?
