AMDZone (http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=581) reports that AMD will be shipping a Athlon 64 2600+ soon.
This chip is rumored to be 1.6ghz 512K CPU
possibly a overclockers wonder chip...

Wacky... it's the first time I've seen a manufacturer decreasing performance with new models! AMD 64 3000+, then 3200+, then 2800+, then 3400+, then 2600+... weird model progression...
Intel did the same thing with the C series chips, they were up to 3.06 on the 533mhz fsb then released the 2.4c on an 800fsb.

It's good thinking by AMD. They're making sure their flagship processor line can be reached by everyone, deep pocketed or not.
