A man who sent 850 million junk e-mails through accounts he opened with stolen identities was sentenced to up to seven years in prison on Thursday.

Jurors sentenced Carmack to seven years for convictions in March of forgery, identity theft and falsifying business records. He must serve a minimum 3 1/2 years. Earthlink said Carmack ran 343 illegal e-mail accounts under false names from 2002 until his arrest last May, using them to send unsolicited e-mail ads for things like get-rich-quick schemes and sexual enhancers.
Check out the story with the spammer in handcuffs. Great stuff. -KF

meanwhile, there are people out there getting shot and raped and killed. not to mention the damn war and all that BS. but the US is worried about MP3's and Spammers. how idiotic is that?

edit: i know spam is a big deal. but really. The world can live with alittle junk email. how about we save some lives and beat terrorism?

I predict that if this sort of thing becomes a weekly event then we will all see a lot less spam.

Jengo and mods and admins, we need a web search area, methinks-- ie an area for how to use web and avoid such things while finding what you need to find. Web is used for so much knowledge gathering it is not funny. Down here, high schools have computers for searching out good stuff. Web search tips area, anyone???

Think back, how many things were you told no to without being told why in a way you could understand, so you did it to know why or prove why what was said was right or why it was not right???

If we cannot show howto RIGHT, then kids gonna go massively wrong way too easy. there do need to be consequences for examples, but there also needs to be showing of right ways.

I don't think we need a web search tips "Area." A thread, maybe... But even then, searching is a rather "Durrrrr" process.

I don't think it's idiotic at all, just because there are worse things happening doesn't make spamming any less hassle. I hope he does the full 7 years and gets 'sorted' during his stay.
