Is this a good heat sink for my system?

I found this one on eBay, and being an all copper unit, I thought it'd be good for my computer. I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ unlocked week 31 processor at its stock 1.83 Ghz. I'd like to crank it up around 2.25-2.50 Ghz with good temperatures.

It says it's a Thermalright SK6.

I doubt it's worth any more than $10, even with shipping included. The SK-6 will perform little better, if at all better than the stock AMD heatsink that comes with the retail AMD XP2500+. The SK-6 was an overclocking HSF back in its day (early 2002) - with lower powered processors.

Did you notice the seller said the one for sale had a "Delta" fan? Would you want your computer to sound like a blowdryer or leafblower? I'm not kidding. If he can only get you one with a Delta fan, you should offer $5.50 for the heatsink alone, shipped.

Tim, Bill is right on the money. The heatsink he linked is an excellent cooler for 2004 overclocking. It will handle anything you can come up with overclocking the 2500+. At $19.99, it's an exceptional bargain. The vendor that he linked is also top-notch.

Same basic design, all copper, should give much better performance. AND, both of those should be better than the Thermalright one you're looking at, not to mention significantly more quiet.

Get the SLK-947U that Bill linked to and you won't regret it. As Leo mentioned SVC is a "top-notch vendor". I have bought the majority of my cooling and cables from these guys and have had the best experience every time. They must be the top vendor for Thermalright as they offer deals I don't see anywhere else.

Thanks for the responses, I'll get one of those 947's. All I need is for them to clear the capacitors right next to one side of the processor on my NF-7 motherboard. As long as they will do that, I should be ready to start overclocking this thing.

As long as you have an NF7-S 2.0, they are guaranteed to clear the capacitors.

Yeah, Priority mail is good way, very good from SVC. I get stuff from them in CA to FL in 2-4 days that way, from day of order placement. The SLK-947U's I got due to price came on 28th, order was placed afternoon there of 26th. I got first USPS email trace update after package was here. Longest from them during XMAS rush time, was 1 week, same shipping. one thing, you can tell them to put a note to leave package by front door or call and ask that note be added, if in and out of house.
